..The battle games between India and China continue on the disputed boundary between the two neighbours, with the two sides flirting dangerously close to an accidental conflict on the 50th anniversary of the 1962 War.

On October 30, the defence brass of the two countries had some anxious moments after nuclear-armed Chinese fighter aircraft were dispatched to scramble Indian jets flying in the Tawang region of Arunachal Pradesh.

Sources say the incidents were reported by the Indian Air Force (IAF) to the defence ministry and a separate report by India's external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), was also filed on the affair......
The funny part of the news report is ..."nuclear-armed Chinese fighter aircraft"...lol. Did the PLAAF hope to nuke the IAF jets...

    Cheers!...on the rocks!!

Well the US did in fact once build nuclear air to air missles.

Interesting possibility... have the Chinese miniaturized a fission device and fitted it to a rocket or missile like the Genie?

The Genie was made in an era when guidance was primitive, and the nuke made up for that, especially w/regards to bomber formations. But I can't see it in this age when guidance systems are mature.

Plus it was the first and only generation of AAM where it's a fire and run away missile.

EMP would definitely be a problem for all of the players, barring immense hardening of components. ;)

Hmm... an EMP missile? Attackers inbound in significant numbers. A small number of EMP-optimized warheads are launched on the ingress path with the sole purpose of disrupting the sensors and electronics so prevalent on modern fighters and bombers.

Would you not most likely end up using these kind of weapon over your own territory? Assuming that anyone in a scenario where such kind of weapons would be used would still care about matters like that.

Most likely over Canadian and Alaskan airspace. The GENIE was the primary weapon for the CF-101 VOODOO. I don't know about EMP but no one is going to fly into a mushroom cloud.

IMHO, the IAF maybe just rechecking the frequencies and locations of PLAAF ground based radars.
Its good to know and register SEAD targets if the need ever arises.

We get enough radiation just from cosmic rays and the sun. No need to snort a little radioactive strontium and iodine as well. ;)

I still strongly remember SERE school and the section of "nuclear survival when downed in enemy territory." It was ugly. It had an airman hiding in a cave for "one full week, two preferable" while the radiation diminished. Food and water were conveniently ignored.

We actually constructed a crude nuclear shelter, which burned about 10,000 precious calories moving a few tons of earth.

There really WAS no guidance for the Genie, it went ballistic as soon as you launched it; you aimed the AIR-2 in the general direction of the oncoming bomber stream, pickled the button, and got the heck outta Dodge. If you were lucky, you'd be flying in the opposite direction at M1 when the warhead went off 12 seconds later.

bahh... you only need 6" of earth to stop most fallout radiation.
