    Some people can't be helped

It really doesn't matter who is in office for some folks as they are not employable unless the circus is in town. In addition to these I kind of wonder how many other Americans are dooming themselves as far as being employable.

Aw come on... they're just expressing themselves. Like these guys...

My "favorite" is the current fad of splitting the tip of the tongue to create lizard-like forked tongues. How they do this without massive blood loss and pain, I cannot imagine.

If someone just HAS to see it...

    Spoiler!

From what I understand the people that do this are forbidden by law to use anesthesia. However, I bet copious amounts of alcohol are frequently used. Just think a bit about all the body parts that are being pierced...with little to no painkillers. In addition to the pain and bleeding, infection is a serious risk. Add all that to gutting your income potential.

If they deliberately make themselves unemployable I assume they forfeit unemployment benefits?

I think they earn money being the freak shows that they are.

There is a freak I see round Soho from time to time. I also see him up Camden Town. He has more steel than proper face and the skin that is visible is tattooed. I see him sittin by the canal charging the un washed masses a bob or two for a photo op.

    These people don't starve.

I am a London rickshaw driver so I spend a lot of nights in the area and I do see a lot of freaky shit but the geezer in question made me do a double take when I first saw him.

Most of those people are probably employed and quite well off. Figure $150 and up a hour for a good artist. There are a lot of technology and social careers where body art is not a handicap and may in fact be a benefit. Also as people on the coasts in their late 30's who pioneered the current body-mod culture are now moving into management. each generation is getting a little bit more leeway as cultural norms shift away from the shirt and tie, hell even the military has modified its policy on tattoos.

I must give you the nod next time I am in Bow. I will treat you to a nice meal and a glass or two of whatever takes your fancy.

Lots of cocaine went into that tongue-splitting...followed by some generous dosages of heroin.
