  • Recent Spam-Attack

For the first time in a long period WAB was the target of a massive spam onslaught in the recent days. This was on the side caused by spambots simply getting smarter and forums constantly needing new ways to protect themselves, but more importantly by me not being available to intervene in time due health problems, for which I apologize.

To prevent this in the future we will try to improve WAB's anti spam features further, as well as consider expanding the staff team to make sure someone will be here to intervene at any time.

Tarek, your continued work (and yes, it is work) to keep the WAB running smoothly is MUCH appreciated.

I'm still a bit baffled by the whole SPAM phenomenon, not just here, but all over the internet. Do people really follow those links shrieking

VIAGRA CIALIS MALE ENHANCEMENT AWESOME POWERFUL SEX!!! CLICK NOW CLICK IT CLICK IT SEX VIAGRA

?? There MUST be some profit somewhere in it, given the volumes of spam.

It is not just about getting people to click the links. The more often a a webside is linked to (for example on pages like wab) the higher it's ranking will be on google & co. With higher ranking you end up among the first search results (for example if someone is googling viagra) which would increase incoming traffic much more than people clicking the link of the spam posts.

New measures to make it harder for spammers to register have been succesfuly tested. While we can never be 100% spam proof, WAB should now be much better secured against similar attacks in the future.

          So, Dems are spammers?

You hit the nail on the head.

What Tarek said, and also it's like phishing attempts, 419 scam etc.

Like any other kind of sales program, it's a numbers game. Put yourself in front of enough potential clients and you will eventually find somebody who either thinks they can profit from the deposed Nigerian prince's family...or, they think they can put one over on the unfortunate former royal family.

Supposedly that's one of the reasons that the grammar and spelling is sub-par...to fool people into thinking the sender isn't intelligent and can be scammed.

He was an utterly incapable, unadapted, irresponsible, psychopathic personality, full of empty, infantile fantasies, but cursed with the keen intuition of a rat or a guttersnipe. He represented the shadow, the inferior part of everybody’s personality, in an overwhelming degree, and this was another reason why they fell for him.”

                  Spam ? what spam.

Was away for a day and saw nothing.

There's a board (rockbox forums) i frequent and they have spam. Every day, at least 3 or four pages of it. Quite sad.

You just missed it in the blink of an eye. Most every forum had spam some with mayo and some without....

I think you all do an amazing job at blocking out spammers. I have been on other forums where it is so difficult to find a conversation that isn't spam. It is beyond frustrating. Here, it is so relaxed and nice, so good work.
