  • 1ST Tankies return

Way ta go boys , welcome home :tankie:

Thirty-nine soldiers from G Squadron of the 1st Royal Tank Regiment (1 RTR) were welcomed home by loved ones when they returned to their base at RAF Honington, in Suffolk, following a deployment in southern Afghanistan. Throughout the tour, G Squadron used the Mastiff, a heavily armoured 6x6-wheel-drive patrol vehicle, to bring firepower and armoured support where it was needed, including supporting the Grenadier Guards and 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment. 110 soldiers or 'Tankies' from G Squadron deployed to Afghanistan. The remaining troops will return over the next few weeks

Yet again no serious casualties. For some reason the Regiment has managed to come home relatively unscathed if reports are correct. Long may it last.

Im not sure Col , way back when we were a full recce reg , then they became an NBC outfit with one sqd of tanks , in the very near future 1RTR will cease to exist as all the existing regiments will become as one .

        THE ROYAL TANK REGIMENT .
