Perhaps the would be bomb makers need some tips - be sure to use a gas stove, preferably in a basement to hide the activity from the law - bring a large kettle of premium 93 octane gasoline to a rolling boil with abundant crumbled pieces of Styrofoam - stirring furiously (with an oversized chrome spoon) and then pour in the contents of several lead acid batteries while leaning over the boiling kettle - praying and chanting slogans vigorously to incite the necessary reaction.sigpic"If your plan is for one year, plant rice. Explosives - far more explosives are used for mining and quarry work, than for military purposes. They don't pack the same energy per unit mass, but would certainly be deadly.
ANFO comes in large bags. These could be stuffed into a Cessna 210 or similar, replicating passenger weight in terms of mass and location. A diverted railway car or two would provide a huge amount. I agree it is hard to get, VERY hard in parts of the world where diversion of explosives is a problem, but it's possible. Hopefully we'll never see it. Terrorists tend to think differently and would rather pack the stuff into a truck..
The stuff the terrorists cook (and hopefully screw up) would be the initiator, since ANFO is very insensitive. We're talking about the same explosives that created the liquids problem for the airlines a few years back. The actual stuff isn't liquid, but it is MADE from liquids. I am guessing the fear was some idiot would whip up a batch in an airplane lavatory.Attached Files

Building stealth characteristics into small drones is infinitely easier than a larger airframe, and is going to make such intercepts a lot more challenging in the near future.
Hand in hand with all this development is the cyber side of drone ops. We've already seen what can be done if the data link is not extremely robust.
