"...Hamas scuttled this breakthrough with the deluge of rocket attacks that led to Operation Cast Lead...From my point of view, there will never be a peace agreement as long as Bibi is the PM..."

Netanyahu is simply the latest in a long line of Israeli prime ministers. That leadership will certainly pass to others. So? The Palestinian Authority, on their BEST day, have only the ability to speak for one portion of the Palestinian constituency. That ability to do so effectively and legitimately can even be challenged.

The raison d'etre for HAMAS, however, is immutable opposition to Israel in any form-for which they are well-subsidized. They've no compelling incentive to view matters otherwise (see "...rocket attacks..." above).

Even under the best possible circumstance-a united Palestinian leadership representing "all" their so-called constituency-Israel can look forward to a kleptocratic neighbor with no vision for governance beyond self-aggrandizement.

Right, how do you make peace with an entity that cannot benefit from the peace?

        • Stripped of the extraneous, a stark reality remains.

For both peoples, the status quo - permanent occupation - is untenable.

          • A fascinating read

Jeffrey Lewis • Israel, Nuclear Weapons and the 1973 Yom Kippur War

The one woman with balls bigger than Indira Ghandi refuses to consider nukes.

There are other aspects that fits in with this thread, ie there has been no intelligence to date to suggest that the Israelis have a nuke to fit on the JERICHO missiles. The assumption is that because the Israelis have the rocket, then they must have a nuke. Dr Lewis inadvertently offered an alternative explanation. The JERICHOs are conventionally armed.
