Prior to an after the War of 1812 there was a lot of friction along the Georgia, Alabam/Florida line. After the Revolutionary War the British ceded East and West Florida (which include much of current Alabama) to the Spanish. The Spanish administered Florida much like the British in eastern and western sections divided right about along a point where the coast starts to bend west (I think the formal line was the Apalachicola River (sp?). A series of wars broke out between the US and the Creeks which began their displacement out of northern Florida, southwest Georgia and East Central Alabama. Jackson lead these forces and his success propelled him onward to glory at New Orleans. The lsing Creek leaders pulled into Eastern Florida. After the War of 1812 continued intrusion into Seminole lands caused friction. The Spaniards had invited in white settlers to populate the territory....and forgot to tell the Seminoles. Some raiding occurred which lead to the 1st Seminole War. Enter Andrew Jackson again. He led the forces which defeated the Seminoles and remaining Creeks. Spain began to realize she no longer had the power to hold onto Florida and figured to get something out of the bargain. the sold Florida to us for $5 million but not without some controversies involving Jackson and his attack on Spanish forces in West Florida. So we have Andrew Jackson to blame for Lebron James.
So in some ways, these wars were related to the War of 1812 since Native populations against US forces were involved and some historians consider them related.
(I just feel like I was standing up in front of my US History 1 classroom!)
Hope that helps.
