John Wayne once met Frank Zappa who was performing at a club - Frank didn't like him - but it sounds like that was mutual. He knocked Frank's hat off - which was kind of classy (the Duke didn't smack him after he made fun of him - which was good for Frank and showed the Duke's personal restraint - even when he was drinking). In all fairness to Zappa, he made fun of himself and everyone else too, he was not a respectful man - but he was a great musician and composer, and he changed a lot towards the end of his life (becoming more appreciative of his audiences). In Zappa's book, he wasn't overly critical of Wayne, and seemed to appreciate his part in the encounter - and that he was lucky not to get punched out.

      "...what a great cast."

Ain't that the truth? Richard Burton, Peter Lawford, Sal Mineo, Robert Michum, Eddie Albert, John Wayne, Red Buttons and the list goes on.

Just saw it again over the weekend on AMC....and remembered I OWN the DVD....so watched it again last night!

"..it wounds my heart with a monotonous languor.." The class of the German acting corps was also well represented as well as the French.

The attack on the casino in Ouistreham brings chills down my spine!
