      • The Chi Yang (FF-932) (former USS Robert E Peary FF-1073) and Hai Yang (FF-936) (former Cook FF-1083) were decommissioned Friday to get ready to start receiving Perry Class frigates from the USN.

Have the OHP's going to Taiwan had their MK 13's removed before decommissioning?

          • All of the U.S. Navy OHP's had their MK 13's removed 10-15 years ago. They are FFG's without the "G".

What Tom said. The bigger question is if the Navy has some of those MK 13's in storage and can be reinstalled, or if and how Taiwan is going to rearm them.

              • That's what I thought, but I guess that Taiwan needed to get some newer hulls and plants in the water. Still, it's an anemically armed ship. They will need to add something.

                • The Ghost Fleet thread is still messed up and throwing a Database Error, so I thought I'd toss this in here.

The following ships are on the move from the Ghost Fleet to the scrapyards (excluding the Ranger, which we all know about)
Sides (FFG-14) - Departed Bremerton 4/30, being towed by Allison Crosby
George Philip (FFG-12) - Departed Bremerton 5/5, being towed by Crosby Integrity
Jarrett (FFG-33) - Departed Bremerton 5/12, being towed by Delta Pacer
Forrest Sherman (DD-931) - Departing Philadelphia now (5/18), being towed by Crosby Crusader

All of these are scheduled to be towed to Southern Recycling in New Orleans.

                  • Did the government formally cancel the ESCO contract, then?

This Defense News article talks about how the carrier dismantling contract with them is still in effect.

                    • Yes, it was reassigned to EMR - Southern around late Feb/early March.

                      • The contract that ESCO had signed with the Navy required Sides and Forrest Sherman to be removed in 60 days of award. (Dec 15th) ESCO defaulted on that on Feb 13th since I'm guessing they couldn't pay the tugs. They technically aren't in default of the Saratoga contract, yet. But I understand the USN is watching the situation in case they can't reopen and meet their contractual obligations.

                        • I imagine they have until October to straighten themselves out. ESCO has hired a restructuring specialist to try and turn themselves around. Once FORRESTAL is dismantled, it should be pretty easy to tow SARATOGA up the channel to All Star. At least one of the tenders at ESCO looks intact enough to tow over to another scrapper, too.

                          • The Crosby Integrity just passed through the Miraflores lock, but not towing the George Philip (FFG-12) as previously indicated that she was supposed to be towing. She was clearly towing Jarrett (FFG-33), that must mean Delta Pacer is towing George Philip. (not yet in Panama) Why I say she was towing Jarrett, according to Navsource, both Sides and George Philip were missing their Mk 92 DCS "eggs" by 2011. http://www.navsource.org/archives/07.../12/071211.jpg
The frigate that passed through today still had hers AND she was also a long hull, where Sides and Philip were short hull Perry's. The photo attachment isn't working...

                            • If you'd like your very own ship dismantling company, ESCO is up for auction July 23rd....
