    The fight against SOPA and PIPA were an example of direct democracy that worked, to an extent. The two bills were stopped, but there are already at least 2 more bills out there that seek to do similar things. Just because the politicians listened to the people once does not mean they will continue to do so. Even with all the power and technology at the hands of the people, stopping SOPA and PIPA were mighty struggles. I believe that while we're on the way, at least in some places, we are still quite far away from actual direct democracy

      True that.But the thing is,in our system we don't decide much.In fact we decide nothing practical.We designate some to represent us,but those can simply do what they want once in power.We can vote others after 4 years,but the damage is done.If we'll get to DD while we can still walk straight,the state will just implement our decisions.A referendum becomes law.
