          P.S I will add more of the video's from the FB page if any of you are intrested! & Feel free to comment about the video!

          From the July 07' Signals -

          In another PR event, our local public television station sent down Sharon Wolin, Sony Stark and a film crew to film a day aboard the USS SLATER. The spot will be part of a documentary series they are producing called "It's an Age Thing," about the contributions our senior citizens are making to our community. Of course, we're loathe to admit to having any "Senior Citizens" in this crew, but a few of the kids agreed to be interviewed anyway. They shot about three hours of footage for a seven-minute piece, but we're all looking forward to it. Les Beauchaine and Joe Burke agreed to be filmed giving a school tour, made a little more difficult by the rain. Monday is a day you can't escape the din of the needle guns on board, and I think the film crew assumed that the rain would end the chipping. But not to be stopped, Earl and Don rigged tarps over the deck and kept right on going. The best part was the interview with Clark Farnsworth. Not that there is ever any dissension within the ranks here, but he came in on a Monday morning ready to spit nails about the condition that the shop had been left in over the weekend. He was so hot you didn't want to get within a fifty-yard radius. But then when they got him on camera, he sat back, smiled and said, "I enjoy every minute I spend aboard the SLATER!" And we've got that on tape!

            C-SPAN archives most of their video content and makes that available on their website.

            If you happen across that link, please post it here so we can watch.

              According to the Times Union "Albany programs will include more than a dozen segments, ranging from 5 to 20 minutes. They will air on C-SPAN2's "Book TV" and C-SPAN3's "American History TV" on Dec. 8 and 9 as part of a special Albany weekend feature."

              So I would assume we will have to wait till alteast then for them to post it on their webiste?

                • This past Saturday the 24th as per the Slater's FB page - "In a joint project between the engineers and electricians, today we generated AC and DC power with the aft ship's service generator for the first time. We hope to get the 24" carbon arc searchlights operational. And the shipfitters drained down the fresh water system for the season. Tomorrow is our last day for public visitation for this year."

                  We also powerd the ship for aprox. 45 minutes via the generator.

                    • Two things from the FB page;

                      First was from today - "Gave a berth to the Coast Guard Buoy Tender Katherine Walker last night. They're pulling all the river buoys up for the season. Today we pulled our gangways in preparation for the move. Thanks to Flach Crane and Doug Tanner for that lift. Everybody is getting ready for winter."

                      And the Weekly video -

                      "This documentary was put together by the New School of Radio and Television right here in Albany, New York. It was shot in May or June of 1998 at the Port of Albany, just before SLATER moved to the Snow Dock for the first time, in July."
