A nice paint job. Even though Old 66 was a D model. Probably the most famous helo ever.Primary Recovery Helo for Apollos 8,10,11,12 and 13.. Apollos 11 and 12 from the Hornet.

Fun Fact, After Apollo 11 the Navy went to a 3 digit number system. But for public relations the bird was repainted with her 66 for the 12 and 13 recovery missions then back to her 740 side number after the ops.

The PM system should be working fine.

He was an utterly incapable, unadapted, irresponsible, psychopathic personality, full of empty, infantile fantasies, but cursed with the keen intuition of a rat or a guttersnipe. He represented the shadow, the inferior part of everybody’s personality, in an overwhelming degree, and this was another reason why they fell for him.”

I thought I had already replied to you last week; maybe I forgot to hit "Send"?

              • Today I am walking back into Hanger 3 and see that the Wildcat has had it's engine installed. It had been down at a volunteer's shop where he used to help develop race engines for Toyota and Mercedes. Well the engine is stunning it it's appearance. Spotless to a fault. Walnut shells. New fasteners. Proper safety wiring and I forgot to bring my camera. Have to get pictures next time.

Of course having my camera would have been useful because as soon as I reached the flight deck a Docent was pointing out how the flag halyard got stuck. Apparently the weight of a ring was supposed to bring the line all the way down from the top of the mast to the front edge of the flight deck. Well, it stopped half way and they needed someone to go all the way up to the top. The Docents thought of doing it and I told them at 220-240 lbs it was not a good idea. So it ended up being me at 169 lbs on the mast ladder. Wish I had my camera for a shot from the top as it is quite the view. The Docent, pulling the line of the deck, took this shot. I had to feed line through by hand as it wasn't working from the bottom of the mast.

Thought I would update you as I have already talked to Stitch. In the past the Hornet did have two Docents who were certified but they have both moved away. Apparently the Boy Scouts Council will not allow paid staff to become Merit Badge certified. I also talked to the San Francisco Bay Area Scout Council and they have no list of available people. They told me it is the responsibility of the Scout Leader to come up with the Merit Badge Councilor.

Given that most Docents and Security are over 70 years old I know not any of them will be considering this. Volunteers in the Bay Area, particularly Docents and Security, are getting difficult to find. Ship restoration crew, like me, are another matter as most of us will continue to do what we do with our core group of 20 or so up until we are no longer able to walk. The interesting thing here is that the Admin is still thinking of moving over to Fisherman's Wharf if possible. More tourists but also lose 80% of all volunteers. Just to go from where most all of us live east of San Francisco, about 30 miles, takes almost two hours each way leaving at 8:00am or 5:00pm closing time. Being as how most are retired and gave up that grind I don't see them continuing.

Besides, they've already got the Jeremiah O'Brien and the Pampanito over there; where will they put the Hornet? Fort Mason?
