    DDG-1000's wake and question

When I read on wiki that DDG-1000 will be as silent as a submarine, I was very very suspicious. No ways can a 14,000 Ton surface ship with a giant wake in the back be silent...

Then I saw this video from Navy's website

    http://www.navsea.navy.mil/teamships...arisons%29.wmv

Took a while for me to find since their video section is buggy (loads wrong videos)

I was awestruck by the wake or lack there of this ship leaves. *droool*

    Also, from this site
    http://www.futuresurfacecombatant.or...tion-Study.pdf

It appears navy wants to purchase 13 DDG-1000s in total by 2020.
Is this true? If so, HURRAAY!!!

The program is for three ships, but I think we are still waiting to see a contract award for the third one. I believe that it is supposed to be awarded sometime in 2011. Long lead items have already been purchased for DDG-1001 and DDG-1002. I am really looking forward to seeing what one of these actually looks like in the water.

A shot of one of Zumwalts 155mm Advanced Gun System from the factory after completion. Apparently judging by the picture, an elevation of 90 degrees is no problem for the gun and would more then likely support a very quick change out for the barrel.

A layout for presentation purposes. If you notice her length, shes almost identical to the Pennsylvania class BB's (Pennsylvania & Arizona) of WWII however not even half of their displacement even at full load nor their beam but somewhat close in draught.

Pennsylvania design draught - 28.5 feet
Zumwalt design draught - 27.6 feet

E-boat's Rimjet (link) (link) (link) supposedly would have reduced propulsion noise, but would have added risk and development cost.

Here it is on ONR's Seajet quarter scale hull development and test mule (link) (link).
