You will at least collect unemployment right? I love the idea of paying all those workers not to work over BS reasons unconnectted to spending. I think it's ludicrous we are going to defund the goverment over planned parenthood when none of the money they recieve from the goverment is used for abortion. What Republicans feel that strongly against: cervical and breast cancer screening, pelvic exams, std tests, communitty education on stds and avoiding unwanted pregnacies etc etc for the poor and those w/o healthcare. It seems ridiculous to defund the goverment and the military over. It has noting to do with cash now it's just about not giving any money to organizations that provide abortions to deliver other vital services. If they want to illegalize abortion let them pass a constitutional amendment or bring a direct court challenge to current precedence. Using a wedge issue that has no financial impact on spending as an excuse to shut down the goverment and stop paying the military is negligent and will be punished in 2012 if it is allowed to happen.

Nope, just not paid and not even over spending.

              roos,

You will at least collect unemployment right?
haha...no, i'd rather not, for that means i am fired

if i get furloughed over next week, i will spend the afternoon at the firing range, pretending that the targets are members of congress...note this does not constitute the official views of the US Air Force...lol.

what really gets my goat is that the legislators will continue to collect full salary (which, IIRC, the motion to have legislators also go unpaid was ironically shot down by republicans).

and from my understanding, there's little chance we will get compensated for having our work/salary arbitrarily disrupted. every day will mean several hundred dollars less for the astralis household so here's hoping they fix it real freakin' soon.

i can only imagine what Speedy-Four Smith in Afghanistan with wife and two kids at home must be thinking.

let's lay off everyone except the ER doctors because the rest "are not needed".
Bad analogy. Hospital is not the government...yet.

Restaurants are not "essential." Let's shut them down. Except they are not the government so unaffected by the budget process.

Wait...they are. Hospitals get shut down if they don't make money. Those that do will stay open. Restaurants shut down if they make money. Those that don't, will close.

My city's trash pickup is contracted to a private company. I'm sure if my city shuts down, someone will organize the hire the same contractors to pick up the trash. Life will go on.

Well it isn't supposed to make money, but IMO, it should have to behave like it expects us to behave, not spending more than they have or will have and not cheating the customers. And lets get them on SSI and regular citizen benifits.... and in regular general population prisons when they earn it...

It passed the Senate by UC. A similar measure was included in that wierd deeming bill that they passed earlier in the house.

But it was a farce anyway. It's a clear violation of Article 2 Section 1 and the 27th Amendment.

Like it or not, it's illegal and nothing more than political posturing.

                            Exactly this.

We got an announcement from the base CO today that was more or less "You may or may not recieve your upcoming half-month pay; you will show up for work regardless." Good stuff.

Okay people, if we can get a Facebook game for Breast Cancer Awareness onto international news this should be simple! We the American people need to send a clear message to Washington that not paying our military service members is NOT AN OPTION! It is time for our generation to stand up and let this government know that regardless of our party affiliations there are things that are UNACCEPTABLE to us as Americans. These men and women put their lives on the line everyday to protect the privileges and freedoms we all enjoy! Please pass this along to as many people as possible as well as send invites to the congress men and women that represent your state letting them know that they need to pass this bill. (If you are more interested in learning about the specifics of the bill you can visit kingston.house.gov, or the Facebook page of Jack Kingston, R-Ga, or Louie Gohmert, R-Texas who are the sponsors of the bill) AGAIN this should not be about partisanship, but rather doing what is RIGHT as a nation to honor all those who currently serve and all those who have gone before and given their life as the ULTIMATE SACRIFICE for the AMERICAN PEOPLE!

*** P.S.- PLEASE DON'T LET THIS JUST BE ANOTHER FACEBOOK PAGE TO "JOIN" OR "LIKE" THIS IS A CALL TO ACTION!!! MANY OF US CANNOT LEAVE OUR JOBS/FAMILIES TO GO PICKETT WASHINGTON BUT OUR VOICES CAN STILL BE HEARD!!! CONTACT YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE TODAY!

Maybe we should pay the Congress on piecework.

1/12 of their annual salary for each appropriations bill they pass...
