Yea I knew (well I didn't know the temp differences ) but yea it's like fighting with a Rottweiler and a Tiger, while I don't wanna fight either one and both could easily kill me, atleast I have a fighting chance with the Rott .

    • Regarding the use of State names for SSNs now, is only Arizona off the list? Or are Oklahoma and Utah off the table as well? Because it seems between the Ohios and Virginias, we are running out of States' names!

        • Hia folks

I'm trying to find an explanation for this image:

Specifically: why are the plane's noses (Supermarine Scimitars, that much I know) high up in the air? And the gear off the deck? They seem about to be launched, but I've never seen that position before!

The aircraft was considered to be heavy and underpowered . An article on flying the Scimitars. http://www.aeroclocks.com/images/pic...dleton%202.pdf

              • This will probably be for desertswo but it's an open question:

What is a "Base Plate Foundation Load"? Trying to find the weight of a gas turbine but that's all I can find at the moment.

                • Navy Days LA 2015 featured two Ticonderoga class CGs: the Bunker Hill and the Cape St George. Two quick things I noticed: the Bunker Hill's hull number is a dark gray shade instead of white, and her SPS-49 radar and supporting platform have been removed. When did these two things start happening? And why?

                  • Bunker Hill has completed her Cruiser Modernization, Cape St George hasn't. Right now CG-63 and CG-64 are receiving theirs.

                    Some info about it:

                      • Now if only they could "drop off" one of those removed SPS-49s in San Pedro for Rusty.......

                        • To whoever might know: what is the average duration of tour of duty of a ship's CO? USN, RN, France, Russia, Japan, whatever...

Bunker Hill either just returned from deployment, will shortly deploy, or the CO just has other things on his mind. Dark gray is supposed to help TV/visually guided ordnance a difficult time picking up the hull or direction of travel.

US 18 months to two years.

                              • That makes sense. I've seen it done before on other ships, even the Missouri wore her numbers like that in 1991, but I've kept forgetting to ask here.

                                Thanks!
