Chinese army to train in Turkey | TRDEFENCE

Chinese International Radio has reported that a number of commandos from the People’s Liberation Army have recently travelled to Turkey to participate in a week-long training session with NATO-member Turkey’s armed forces. This is the very first time land forces of Turkey and China are participating in such a joint training exercise.

TRDEFENCE has learned that the training sessions involve a crash course in one of Turkey’s top mountain warfare academies and a joint Chinese-Turkish mountain warfare exerise to be held over central Anatolia’s rough terrain. Aim of the training is to share methods and tactics between the armed forces of these two friendly countries, create a common pool of military knowledge, increase joint operations capability, deepen ties between TSK and PLA, as well as promote further cooperation between Turkey and China.

Chinese soldiers are expected to stay in Turkey for over two weeks.

ANKARA - The People's Liberation Army of China and the Turkish Armed Forces kicked off a one-week joint military training on Monday in Turkey, China Radio International reports. The drill, held between commando forces of the two armies, focuses on basic skills of combating in mountain regions, the Chinese Ministry of National Defense said in a statement on its website.

The drill is the first of its kind and aims to deepen the military cooperation and improve the combating ability between the two armies.

Turkish and Chinese militaries had also conducted a joint aerial exercise in central Anatolia, between 20 September and 4 October. Taking into account the concern of the United States, Turkey had used during the exercise F-4 fighters, rather than F-16 fighters. The Russian-made SU-27s used by the Chinese air force and refueled in Iran.

this seems a little strange, even for a communist country. i thought the PLA had a strict code of training their men only in the main land?

I'm getting the feeling that China will be using such a military exercise for multiple reasons-

1/ It helps spread its political and military influence as the superpower of tomorrow
2/ It gives a good insight to NATO capability and true cooperation
3/ China's increasing influence (political and economical) in Afghanistan and Pakistan, means Turkey has to be engaged
4/ China's growing expanse of military arms sales is targeting Turkey, who is showing signs of steering away from American political and military influence!

        Well its just a thought!
