                DPICM Projos

That's a DPICM mission with one hell of a lot of destruction down-range. IIRC each projo has 72 dual purpose shape-charge grenade bomblets. Lot of projos. Lots and lots of bomblets. Overhead cover won't be helping much unless it's maybe six inches of reinforced concrete.

Ooh come on now. Those little bitty bomblets will ONLY punch through 2.75 inches of RHA Steel

How many vehicles you know carry that much TOP armor?;) I figure there were close to 5,000 bomblets on that target. Maybe more.

What a God-awful mess that was...

10th Marines Regiment intend to mass fires in "Regimental Phase" this week at Ft Bragg. 48 Howitzers. Going to try to get onto the hill to film it. Should be pretty cool ;)

                        "48 Howitzers."

What's up with that? Looked up their website and it's a mess. Here's what I got- 1/10 Marines, 2/10 Marines, 3/10 Marines, and 5/10 Marines. Next I looked at the battalions.

1/10 Marines has like six batteries. 2/10 Marines has four including F Btry 2/12 Marines. 3/10 Marines has four including, yup, F Btry 2/12 Marines and 5/10 Marines has one battery (Headquarters) and a company?

The idea was to count tubes. I assume 10th Marines is a divisional component. Once upon a time I'd easily be able to determine an army DIVARTY- 72 SP 155mm How in direct support (three 24 gun battalions) and a divisional general support battalion of 8"/MLRS (two batteries of 8" and one MLRS battery).

Now I haven't got a clue who's got what where.

In any case, 48 tubes ain't rolling my eyes. 75th F.A. Bde. used to shoot 66 tubes TOT once a year (1-17FA, 2-36FA, 2-34FA, 4-4FA (8")). And we were a corps general support brigade. DIVARTY could put 84 tubes plus an MLRS battery on a target.

Oh well. Not to (steel) rain on anybody's parade but I sure miss the good ol' days when massing fires meant something.

10th Marines is an abspolute mess organisationally, it changes from week to week with regards to which batteries are adminstered by which battalion!!! I will attemtp to clarify the situation as of 10 minutes ago lol

Here is how its supposed to be-

1/10 has Alpha, Bravo and Charlie
2/10 has Echo, Fox and Golf
3/10 has India, Lima, Kilo and Fox 2/12
5/10 has Romeo, SIerra, Tango and Golf 2/12

                          The reality is as follows:

1/10 has Alpha, Charlie, Romeo and Tango (currently at Ft Bragg) have Sierra as well but Sierra personnel in Haiti with 22nd MEU Bravo in Haiti with 24th MEU

2/10 has Fox, Golf, Lima and Fox2/12 (Currently at Ft Bragg)

3/10 has India, Kilo and Echo (Currently in Afghanistan)

5/10 command element in Afghanistan, Golf 2/12 not yet stood up.

That could all change by next week!!! ANd just to make life easier for me they also have a horrible habit of swapping guns between batteries!!!!!

                          Hope that clarifies LOL

Because their maintenance schedule is all jacked up as well, and a battery could find itself scehduled to go to teh field while half their guns are at the 3/4 Shop having annual services done. So they end up taking the guns from one of the batteries who are deployed but left their equipment behind. Sometimes this becomes permenant, sometimmes it doesnt. As i said 10th Marines is an absololute mess. They drive me crazy!!!!!

                                Your making me cry.

Way back when I was a youngster 10th Marines had 5 whole Battalions that were broke down as 1/10-3/10 each having 3 105mm batteries (6 guns each)in DS and 1 M114 battery, 4/10 with 2 M109A1 batteries and 5/10 with 2 8in batteries.

A few years later we went to

                                1/10 with A, B and C batteries with 8 M-198 each (24 guns)
                                2/10 with D, E, and F Batteries with the same (24 guns)
3/10 with G,H and I with the same (24 guns)
                                4/10 with K, L and M with the same (24 guns)
                                5/10 with N, O and P with 6 M109A3s (18 guns)
                                and Q, R and S with 6 M-110A2a (18 guns)

So in its heyday 10th Marines could field 114 155mm Howitzers and 18 8in howitzers.

Thats a Regt ToT to watch from the hill.:))

A.E. if you go to the Regt CP, (also at the 1/10 CP) there may still be a 10th Mar FA association board with the plankholders names on it. I'm one of the young Sgts from 5/10.

Is the board still there? And is Nickolas's 10,000 105mm round fired still at either the 3/10 CP or the Regt CP?

Ask him what he thinks of the Regt CO. We both had him as a OIC at Sill.
