I dont recognise that Firing Point, and trust me I know almost every spot on the East Coast where Marine Arty Shoots from, so im pretty sure that West Coast, most likely Pendleton which would make it someone from 11th Marines.

On the 4 pics I actually posted out of sequence from a narrative point of view. First Pic should be last, thats them done shooting and wandering back to find some shade. Note the trench dug by the spades and the mound of dirt pushed up. Takes A LOT of shooting to do that with those big ass spades the M777 has!!! Last Pic should be second in sequence Note the spades not fully dug, thats probably the first round of the day goin out.

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "My ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."- Isaac Asimov

          • MOPP4 is a vacation in Iceland compared to the Zodiacs we wore in NBC Defense. Especially when you were on duty on Decon Station 14. Airtight tent filled with 320F hot CO2 that you had to hang up MOPP4 suits in for decontamination.

Also, here's one from Reuters today, unrelated:

Okay, I never realized this but....from looking at the video there is a tray the next round is loaded onto prior to firing to speed up loading process?

Missed each other by a month. I spent a good part of July downrange in Twentynine Palms. As hot as I've EVER been. Medic stuck a thermometer in the sand during the early afternoon. 130F. Watched from a hovering Blackhawk a rifle company from the 7th I.D. (Light) hump to the top of a two thousand foot bump about 1030 hrs one morning. Thought I'd die watching them.

Try it in an old M60A3, M1 or M1IP... We recorded ammo temps of 127 degrees in an M1IP in woodland camo at Yakima in June.

                          Dude, you were RIDING!!!

And you could take the hose from your overpressure system and stick it up the sleeve of your MOPP suit. If you guys didn't do that then either you were stupid or your maintenace sucked because you gear didn't work.

As I said, try it dismounted attack uphill.

Didn't have overpressure until the M1A1, the Patton and early Abrams had shared crew filter (you'd stick it under the bottom the jacket not sleeve). I don't know about infantry, but we had to do 8 hours in MOPP gear.

                              Had it in M60A3s...

In USAREUR our field uniform was MOPP 2....year round.

We lived in MOPP gear back then.
