"Yep, cabled as of right now but Selex have a wireless option using 802.11 (something or other) wirless protocols.

The Inertial Gyro on the LINAPS has a GPS circuit and antenna integral to it so they work together to provide real time continuously updating position and heading data for the system.

The Digital System on US Howitzers does axactly the same thing just uses different "Green boxes" bolted on to achieve the same result"

Well, the fun part for me was putting your guns in with a good map spot and laying accurately and quickly. With good VEs and up-to-date metro, the shooting became a function of the F.O.s skill at target location. Of course, how hard is that now with GPS and laser rangefinders oriented for direction?

Yeah, we can now solve the indirect fire "equation" using pretty much absolutes instead of best guesses lol. Gun location, Target Location, Non Standard Conditions etc are all now pretty much definitively known There is a system soon to hit service to provide a continuously updating realtime met message available on the digital net. Does make life easier

Couple of thoughts came to mind.

The piece displacement on one of the guns was pretty dramatic for one of the first rounds fired. Trails hadn't been dug in. Maybe it's their SOP to shoot the trails in? Dunno. Later it appeared the trails were well secured and there was almost no displacement when firing.

Other note was that the two sections initially might have been adjusting on two different targets because the far forward gun appeared oriented and firing in a different direction. LOF was maybe as much as 800 mils out from the rear weapon.

Good observations but not what I was looking for I was wondering if anyone noticed USMC personel firing a British L118 Light Gun at 0:44, 1:23, 2:36, 2:47 and 3:00.

In response to your comments, we teach that a 3 inch engagement of the tips of the spades is enough for the geometry of the trail arms to "Self dig" on firing. However, be advised there may be significant displacement (Charge and QE dependant) to teh rear, so if laying in digitally dont bother putting out teh colimator, aiming poles etc until after the first mission. Now if occupying a position for an anticipated extended period of time they will dig the spades in deeper, however on a Hip Shoot or an Out of Traverse/Action Azimuth mission 3 inches (Or maybe even less) is the norm.

In afghanistan platoons engaging different targets simultaneously is the norm, when the brown stuff starts flying its usually happening all over the place. FDC's get a real workout over there!!! Heck because the batteries are split up and spread out so thinly I know of several instances where the platoon was laid on a priority target when an Immediate Suppresion for Troops in Contact came down, it was a 2 gun platoon so one stayed on the priority target the other shifted 1600mils approx and provided the support needed.

Gun positions are immaculate. What's up with the extensive use of Lynn Lactose as sand-bags? Not sure why all the ammo is out and lift-plugs for the projos removed while canisters holding propellant are open.

    High Angle

Can't help but notice from these photos in GUNNER PORN the Army does almost nothing but H.A. fires in the east. Understandable given the bumpy turf.

Yeah, when dropping rounds into a valley somewhere the only way to get them in there is with a very steep angle on the downward leg fo the trajectory. Gunners and A Gunners come back with some serious biceps lol!!!! Max Load QE is 800 Mils (By the book) so lots of cranking up and down between rounds.
