So then what about a comparison between V or VII Corps (was there a significant difference between the two?) and 3rd Shock?“He was the most prodigious personification of all human inferiorities. He was an utterly incapable, unadapted, irresponsible, psychopathic personality, full of empty, infantile fantasies, but cursed with the keen intuition of a rat or a guttersnipe. He represented the shadow, the inferior part of everybody’s personality, in an overwhelming degree, and this was another reason why they fell for him.”

We've discussed this before. It depends on what type of battle. If we could even setup a hasty defence, then 3rd Shock and 16 Guards would have smashed itself on our steel. However, if they could get the jump on us, then 11ACR has to buy time for VII Corps to get ready. Failing that, 4CMBG would have delay the army group long enough for VII Corps to get across the Rhine.
