  • Apparently this is the AESA for PAK-FA. I sense the God presence in the array design..heheh.

      Are you sure?

I was under the impression that the PAK-FA was using the Byelka system developed from the Irbis-E. Along with two smaller side-looking radars in the forward fuselage. I believe the picture you posted is for a proposed radio-optical phased array, that for the time being is pretty looking vaporware.

It's one of a pair of smaller side looking AESA radars.

Photonics has potential but is still relatively immature as a technology. The US began investing heavily into Photonics in 2014 with private companies matching Federal contributions to try to advance the "Technology Readiness Level" from where it stands at level 4 to level 6 or 7. Research is also underway in Europe, and a team in Italy created a photonics radar prototype in 2013.

As for when it will be ready to use for real? Who knows?!

                • Some new video footage of the Pak Fa and other Russian aircraft:

The tolerances seem to be getting better but they don't appear to have their surface coating yet. Otherwise, how is it that you can see all the rivets?

                  • I've yet to see a PAK-FA with LO enhancements... eg I've never seen any PAK-FA imagery where the c0ckpit has been treated to manage reflection, refraction and absorption of radar waves.

if anyone has some feel free to post it up .....
