It seems the Chinese may have found the QBZ-95 to be insufficent in certain cases and have designed a coventional rifle. Anyways, it looks much better then the QBZ-95.
Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none; be able for thine enemy rather in power than use; and keep thy friend under thine own life's key; be checked for silence, but never taxed for speech.
Isn't that the QBZ-03, which is the QBZ-95 technology fitted to a non-bullpup rifle frame? That's been out for ages now.
I only found out about it now. It looks like certain units will be getting them, it's unclear whether it will replace the QBZ-95. It does create logistics problems having two main rifles. It would be nice to find more info about the abilities of the 5.8mm round.
Type 03 has been in service for over 5 years now and it has more in common with the Type 87. Type 87 only enjoy a 100,000 production run, an extremely small scale by Norinco standard.
Type 03 is being issued to Border patrol and 2nd line units -- it is cheaper to produce than the Type95 and PLA won't have to retrain all those AK clone users to bullpup

Malaysia done that already, FOG. Switched from AUG to M-4.
But it's different ammo, isn't it? Or does the AUG fire standard M855/SS109 ammo?

Same ammo. They just weren't happy with the quality of the guns they were getting. If memory serves, they felt they got shafted because their AUG were 4 MOA plus weapons.
