  • World Navies Listing (updated 3/29/05)

    WORLD NAVIES
A quick look at the Major units of most navies of the world. Reflects Force Structure forcasted for 31December05 as far as possible and in some cases into 2006.
Ive attempted to list only small frigates that are of relatively modern and useful combat value displacing approx 1000-2000fl.
Ive not noted numerous patrol vessels similar to USCG Cutters.
In addition sections for Amphibious ships(displacement over 1000fl) were incorporated.
As were sections for Mine Warfare ships and Underway Replenishment ships.
Listed the Tiers and the nations in them at the top.
Ship Listings for each navy follow below.
See separate list for Guided Missle units under a displacement of 1000fl.
The Navies in each Tier are ranked in no particular order:

Smiling- HMCS Huron was decommissioned on March 31 of this year.

Here's some info on the new AOR:

Thank you knindly for the links Highsea. I'm assuming that the canadian Govt. has no planned replacements for the Iroquois class when the eventually retire? I've been unable to find any info on this subject.

That has already been announced by the CMS that no replacements are sought for the IROQUOIS Class.

Kind of a waste to upgrade the tribals for AA defence for IIC 10 years of service and then squander that capability by not procuring replacements. Has the navy's role changed that much, and do the Halifax class fullfill at least some of the AA capability's?

This should give you a heads up on what the CMS is thinking.

Aside from this, what's not here is that the navy is seriously looking into cruise missiles.

Cruise missles makes the AA thingy seem lame.....mmmmm cruise missles......

Do you think it will likely happen though? I've also read that the military is looking into remotely operated drones.

Depends on what kind of shape politically, operationally, and financially the VICTORIAs are in 10 years time. Right now, the political picture doesn't look too good.
