Just wanted to share with you all that today is the 163rd anniversary of the formation of my Regiment, the 3d U.S. Cavalry, or the Regiment of Mounted Riflemen, as it was originally called. I know it may not be a long time for some of armies across the pond, but it's one of the oldest continuously serving units in the U.S. Army. Since 1846, the Regiment has seen service in Mexico, the western U.S. territories, the American Civil War, the Phillipines, Europe during both World Wars, was the lead unit of Patton's 3rd Army to enter Germany, and continued through Desert Storm and now three deployments to Iraq. We're pretty proud of our long service and our unique organization among so many "standardized" brigades.
Brave Rifles!
