    WORLD NAVIES

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A quick look at the Major units of most navies of the world.

Ive attempted to list only small frigates that are of relatively modern and useful combat value displacing approx 1000-2000fl.

Ive not noted numerous patrol vessels similar to USCG Cutters.

In addition sections for Amphibious ships(displacement over 1000fl) were incorporated.

As were sections for Mine Warfare ships and Underway Replenishment ships.

Listed the Tiers and the nations in them at the top.

Except as noted and sometimes subjectively and unconciously have I taken into account funding, personnel issues, training, optempo, maintenance etc in addition to relative combat capabilities.

    Any comments, questions or corrections?

I am indebted Eric Wertheim the compiler of "Combat Fleets of the World" from where most of the data here was derived and adapted. Any errors in this listing are my own.

In addition his most recent article "A Year of Compromise" in USNI's Proceedings Magazine World Navies in Review section of March 2005 was invaluable.

As were his E-mails to me in response to various questions I had.

    Rick, very impressive. :)

Two comments: Even if Brazil has got a carrier, does it deserve tier 4 when you consider the quality/ age of the ships?

For Norway: It should be 1+4 Aegis FFG, 5 in all.

      Thanks. Fixed the typo.

Yep I know what your saying and I did add a qualifying statement stating they would be considered much lower if it werent for the carrier. But having a carrier I made the decision to list them with other carrier operators.

        rickusn,
        Just a comment about india,
the gorshkov wont be there till 2008-9. Adn the Other one isnt of much use as its most of the time in the docks for repairs. as of now indian Navy has no advantage for having two carriers.

Yes you are right on all counts.

In fact the ex-Gorshkov reportedly to be re- named Vikramaditya is the replacement for Viraat which is scheduled to be retired 2007-2008.

The ADS which was to be in service 2008-2009 now looks to be in service no earlier than 2012.

I should have added that info. I will soon.

            WORLD NAVIES

A quick look at the Major units of most navies of the world.

Ive attempted to list only small frigates that are of relatively modern and useful combat value displacing approx 1000-2000fl.
Ive not noted numerous patrol vessels similar to USCG Cutters.
In addition sections for Amphibious ships(displacement over 1000fl) were incorporated.
As were sections for Mine Warfare ships and Underway Replenishment ships.
