  • Where's Osama bin Laden?

There is no definitive proof as to Osama bin Laden's exact whereabouts, but where do you think he's most likely to be? He was based in Afghanistan at the time of the September 11th attacks but is now widely believed to be in Pakistan. Afghanistan or Pakistan, and for what reasons do you think he's in one or the other?

If his rotting corpse does not fall under "he", then the poll is underrepresentative.

I think he's dead. There were rumors his health was deteriorating, and we are now 5 years further.

      Osama Bin Laden

I believe without a doubt Osama Bin Laden is in Pakistan and under the protection of the ISI, Pakistani Intelligence Services.

It doesn't matter where he is. He hasn't done much lately. I think we have waged a pretty successful campaign to keep his head down. Neutralizing him is as effective as killing him, probably more so. Killing him makes him a martyr and might even rally the crazies. Neutralizing him sort of puts them in limbo and they don't know what to do.

Despite the best efforts of the western governments, Pakistan has been walking a tight rope between deceit of the western intelligence agencies and unconvincing support of counter terrorist actions.

          Fact;

          1.Weapons are available
          2.Logistical Support are available
3.Financial support is available locally and Pakistan is the conduit of finances from the UAE and many other Gulf Arab countries.
4.The chances of the west being able to attack overtly or covertly is diminished in the tribal areas

Pakistan has received billions for anti terror, has rogue nuclear scientists selling everything except the kitchen sink, why would Osama Bin Laden not be in Pakistan, everything he needs is available locally!

Lastly, the terrain lends itself to be able to drift from one country into several other neighboring countries without too much effort. The Pakistani's need to step up and make a choice, be a pariah state and all the trimmings that go with it or face its responsibilities and for once be transparent in its dealings

There had been talk amongst the danger tourists on the BFC that the Chitrol region of Pakistan had been where osama bin laden has been hiding, basically a mountain resort not unlike Aspen or the Alps.

None of the above. Too obvious.

Most likely right under our noses where there is some rocky backgrounds for his videos to look like mountains. Could be Turkey or even Iraq itself.

I voted dead because I have not seen irrefutable evidence that he is indeed still alive. I think someone else has taken over the reins of AQ and is still using Osama's possibility of being alive for propaganda.

He wont move but very short distances at a time. Too many eyes in the sky armed with hellfires just awaiting a chance and without needing a go ahead they WILL shoot from the hip.;)

                      Saudi Arabia.

                      The only place where:

                      A. He cannot be found without compromising both the hunter and the protector and therefore -won't- by mutual accord. The consequences of breaking ties with our second largest debt owner and the sole remaining 'Minas Tirith' of the 1970's Twin Pillars concept intended to stabilize oil prices through unified contacts across the Gulf.

                      B. He is not apt to be sold out because, again, he is home and home doesn't want his dirt made public do to internal security issues, whether they agree with his terrorist philosophies or not. Too many nutjobs in the local Mosques as is to let it be known that The Kingdom was defacto asylum for an extremist whose existence legitimizes, not their beliefs but the certainty that they can get away with espousing them. Iran is not the same because of the Shiia/Sunni crap and because they don't have a national-pride or business stake in the matter they could easily play him as a symbol of the West's Weakness (come get him and let us pop open a can of sunshine) or hand him off to Al Jazeira as a patsy and let him gibber his way to a conspiracy theory that destroys whatever remains of our 'Coalition of the Willing'. Indeed, I have a feeling he knows way too damn much for that to be allowed anyway.

                      C. At home, his access to money is ZERO. His access to 'the wrong kinds of people' is ZERO. We can trade Western media-control downplay of any rumor and upswing on misinformation while effectively shutting down the CIA hunting group that should be on his butt 24:7 because the Saudis will have given us 'hourly visitation' rights to an appropriate minder.

                      CONCLUSION:
It was probably a done deal from before we invaded AfG. Contact was made and the deal arranged with Tora Bora being a smoke screen as the entire 'let the man slip through the ring of untrustworthy hill billy allies' was pure crap. Something our supposed CIA assassination would know from as many as THREE YEARS of prior experience (this goes back to mid-Clinton people). The U.S. knows exactly what kind of troglodytes the locals are and thus, if anything, used the confusion and their duplicitous nature to have _OUR_ (black) SOF whisk him out of there and put him on a plane with the offensive as a cover to break him away from his own entourage.

So if he's alive, UBL is undoubtedly set for the life in his gold plated hermitage. Sippin' daiquiris and fondling fine women at a remote resort prison 'somewhere in the GAFA' (that's Great -Arabian- Eff All to you potentially offended Aussies).

I voted for dead or incapacitated as I believe he is too great an assett for them to keep him hidden, in his person many of the Jihad movements draw their motivation, as a dead matyr he has some value but of diminshing value overtime. However if he were alive and more public, he could and would be of a greater propaganda and motovational energy to the Jihad movements than as a dead leader even a matyr.

                          Dead or MIA

Dead, most likely. Zawarihi has been putting out all the messages.

If he's alive, we won't find him. Doubt he's in Pak or AFG.

Out of the options given, its a toss up between Pak and dead IMO, just wouldn't have survived scrutiny in A-stan till now.

Ben Laden is dead or in Pakistan, nobody knows. But someone is at least as important as him now: Mullah Omar, the leader of the Taliban.
