I don't know the triggering mechanism. It might have been automatic or pilot controlled. But it was short duration. The Me109 used both Nitrous (DB605D) and methanol (DB605 ASM/ASB/ASC/DB/DC) depending on the engine. The Methanol system was known as the MW50 (Methanol and Water 50% even though according to wiki it was acutally 50% methanol 49.5% water and .5% anti-corrosive). The Me109 apparently had 10 minutes worth, but I doubt this could be used at once. You'd blow the heads off the engine.
One thing is the injection system did not work as well at max throttle. With the engine already getting all the fuel the fuel system could pump the injection would only cause a lean situation and detonation as well as loss of power.
