Never-seen battle in Indian skies (Mig-35 vs Super Hornet)
Russian Aerospace progress in the last 2 decades has been quite low. While Europeans have surged ahead. It makes more sense to join the EADS Consortium.
IMO, in nutshell, what the IAF actually wants is:
*Optimal Price
*Tactical Advantage over contemporary rival fighters
*BVR Capability
*Good Armamemts.
*Low Radar Signature
*Super Cruise Capability
*Preferably AESE Radar
*ToT if possible
*License Manufacture for handling the 50% Offset Condition
*Guaranted supply of spares
*Scope of future upgrades
*Guaranted denial by the manufacturer to provide the same to rivals

your last point is pretty tricky in todays world. its not cold war age anymore.
if we buy hornets, i dont think the us will deny giving them to pakistan.
although russia can give us this guarantee i think. even european ones might agree but i cant be sure.

Dear Sohamsri,
I agree that it is critical issue, no guarantee that we will get the guarantee,
but the IAF would want atleast a veral understanding and 126 is a BIG Number. No provider would gamble with such a number. And trust me, our tactical concerns are PAF and PLAAF and I really don't see the US going even close to delivering the hornets to either. Giving to PAF is as good as giving it to PLAAF.

Dear Sohamsri,

excellent point. but pakistan is the dear servant of usa who does as they say.... so.... they mite jus get them, they got the f-16s, china can reverse engineer them also..
But what is so good about it ?? Except the gorgeous looks of course. I know its pretty high tech and dassault is reliable.... but it does not have thrust vector or supercruise or any other feature which makes it stand apart.
