Russian Aerospace progress in the last 2 decades has been quite low. While Europeans have surged ahead. It makes more sense to join the EADS Consortium.

IMO, in nutshell, what the IAF actually wants is:
        *Optimal Price
*Tactical Advantage over contemporary rival fighters
        *BVR Capability
        *Good Armamemts.
        *Low Radar Signature
        *Super Cruise Capability
        *Preferably AESE Radar
        *ToT if possible
*License Manufacture for handling the 50% Offset Condition
        *Guaranted supply of spares
        *Scope of future upgrades
*Guaranted denial by the manufacturer to provide the same to rivals

in the IAF exercise with RAF the sukhois did'nt have much problem in matching the eurofighter typhoon.

i dont say that they were outclassed, they both were equal.

dont we want something which is better.

          mig35 has thrust vector. advantage

i heard eurofighter has supercruise. true ? if yes then thats pretty good for them.

what d'u think about the gripen ?? its technologically pretty high.

last question, would the rafale ( the most gorgeous one ) outperform the eurofighter ??

your last point is pretty tricky in todays world. its not cold war age anymore.

if we buy hornets, i dont think the us will deny giving them to pakistan.
although russia can give us this guarantee i think. even european ones might agree but i cant be sure.

              Dear Sohamsri,
I agree that it is critical issue, no guarantee that we will get the guarantee,
but the IAF would want atleast a veral understanding and 126 is a BIG Number. No provider would gamble with such a number. And trust me, our tactical concerns are PAF and PLAAF and I really don't see the US going even close to delivering the hornets to either. Giving to PAF is as good as giving it to PLAAF.

Rafale is least problematic of all. Don't mind the price - bargain to death and seal the deal for 200 pieces.

But what is so good about it ?? Except the gorgeous looks of course. I know its pretty high tech and dassault is reliable.... but it does not have thrust vector or supercruise or any other feature which makes it stand apart.

                            Can the eurofighter supercruise ?

I think i agree with adux.... inspite of rafale and mig 35 as favourites, even I think it makes more sense to join EADS.

But eurofighter is not a very proved plane...
