  • Aden - 1958

    Hi,
I'm new here and trying to help a lady in the UK find her Dad's grave.

Please forgive me if this is not the place!

Her Dad was Staff sergeant Wilfred Sanderson Saville.

He was born in 1928 in Sheffield and died in Aden in 1958 when she was 2 years of age. Apparently he was electrocuted.

    I found this for her:

From the GRO Service departments death indices - 1956 - 1960

    Saville, Wilfred S.
    Died in Aden.
    1958.
    Buried in Aden.

Record is on page (27) 8.

She believes he belonged to the "Queens Own"

Unfortunately, that is ALL she knows!.

She is desperate to go and visit his grave before she is too old and it's too late.

She is really not computer savvy, so I said I'd give it a go.

Is there anyone who can help me point this lady in the right direction? ( I don't know her, I was chatting to her on a Genealogy board and her story touched me, can't imagine not being able to visit my Dads grave.)

She can't ask her Mum anything as she has passed away, and even when she was alive, understandably she didn't want to talk about it.

Any pointers would be more than welcome.

Here's a website about Brits in Aden. Not sure the information will help or not.

    Somerset & Cornwall Light Infantry - SCLI - 6 October 1959 - 10 July 1968

Suggest contacting the Commonwealth War Graves Commision. Every service burial is listed.
Semper in excretum. Solum profunda variat.

          Thanks Glynn,

I tried a search, but it only goes up to 1947.

I'll contact them when they re-open after the holiday break and see if they can help me.
          Cheers
          Mary
