In most Western Armies what are the 2 things the operations center and/or XO are NOT allowed to in the absence of the commander (asleep; in an orders group, etc...)?

    • I believe you may issue all new orders necessary to preserve the force (or a threatened portion thereof). You may not issue new orders to surrender the force nor new orders to attack. Existing orders (to include those pending actual execution) and standing operating procedures continue as precedent.

      • Deuce,

        Good enough.

        1. Do not commit the reserve.

        2. Do not change priority of fires.

        All yours, Redleg!

Gunny, even this dumb grunt knows no commander has the authority to do either of the items you mentioned. THAT is NCO business!

              • Okay...may have done this before but its a 2 part question.

In honor of Mikey Sparks showing up recently.....

How many track shoes are on an M113 and more importantly, explain why that number.

                • Left 63, right 64.

The slight offset reduces the production of harmonic vibrations when crossing bridges, reducing the risk of destructive effects.

It also reduces road noise, but that's a side effect.

                      • The numbers are correct but the results you mentioned are not why there are 64 and 63.

So the question is still open.

Hey, the rules are no Googling!

And you didn't think I would ask a question with a simple Google answer did you?

                        • Come on folks...its an armored vehicle. What is the common denominator in most armored vehicles?

Not that hard...and obvious once you look at it from the ground up.

Many things. Armor protection, something to keep all the weight rightly distributed... Frankly IDK.
