    I guess I misunderstood

    From the way I read the question it looks like you were asking as if a real armored vehicle's name was used in a Tolkein book. I didn't realize you are asking for the name of an armored vehicle which based on a mythological creature.

    So let me try again....

    I hope you are not thinking Paladin. Because the M109A6 Paladin was named for the retainers of Charlemagne.

    Nope not Paladin (actually..I dont even know a Paladin in Tolkiens work..doesnt mean there isn't one). The Country of origin was already meantioned in this thread.

    Are you 100% sure that the thing was named Olifant? If memory serves, it was Elefant.

    Elefant was a German design, Olifant was a South African version of the centurion (and that is the one I am talking about).

    Elephants are for some strange reason called Olifanten in both Dutch and Afrikaans.
