          • Well half right.

There were a few F6F-xN Night fighters but the majority or principal fighter of 1945 Air Group/Wing was another contemporary aircraft. Think another derivative of the "Pirates" theme. Regardless USS Midway went from XXX to F-18 in her service...quite a generational upgrade in the span of almost half a century.

            • Then it was the F4U.

I saw something on a Midway website which stated its first air group in 1945 had F6Fs and then quickly swapped out to F4Us.

              • You are good to go.

Once the got the landing sorted out the F-4U was a gem.

I was going to say that the USMC F-4Us flew aboard for a good meal.....but Marine Squadrons on CVs has been going on for a long time.

Now what well known movie is pinwheeling seen in and the CAG is upset with the use of the planes and possible damage to them?

I know, and I'm sure AR knows as well, so I am keeping my mouth shut.

This must be off the record as we are still working the 19th century engineer question. How about The Bridges at Toko-Ri?

Off the record that is the movie and would have mentioned it earlier if I had seen this. The movie gives a great idea on how Skyraiders were used to do that.
