ARMY MAJOR JAILED OVER CHILD PORN

    08:00 - 08 December 2007

A decorated Army hero who had 4,658 child porn images on his laptop has been jailed for 18 months.

Major Nicholas Charles McKeown MBE, who was in the Army Air Corps, said he was simply exploring his sexual curiosity and fetish for girls in uniform.

But the helicopter pilot and trainer, who was based at RAF Waddington, had downloaded explicit pictures of babies.

More than 50 pictures were considered at the most serious level of child pornography, Lincoln Crown Court heard.

Major McKeown (48), who had led the Blue Eagles helicopter display team, served in Northern Ireland and Bosnia.

He once ran across a minefield to try and save three servicemen in a crashed and burning Lynx helicopter, the court was told.

Yesterday he admitted 14 charges of possessing and making indecent photographs of children.

These ranged from babies to girls aged up to 10 and children in their early teens, prosecutor Phil Howes said.

McKeown, based at the station's Air Warfare Command, kept the computer at his home in Chichester Road, Bracebridge Heath.

Lincolnshire Police searched the house on advice from German police, finding child abuse images alongside McKeown's adult porn, he said.

Michael Fowler, in mitigation, said child pornography was not alone in McKeown's collection.

"He puts the volume of his adult pornography at gigabytes, which puts into context the number of images in this case," he said.

Judge Michael Heath said: "You have explained what you did by saying you were exploring your sexuality.

"In doing that, you downloaded images of young children and those young children were grossly abused."

For more on this story, see Saturday's Lincolnshire Echo.
Good that British justice is not enamoured by whether a person is decorated or not!

However, I wonder why he did it!

    Very unfortunate!

And just earlier today (well yesterday now) I was joking around with a couple of friends, we were talking about securing your internet browsing against the universities monitoring, about that the only reason you would want to is if you're massing a child-porn collection.

..or just your regular variety of porn perhaps. Why on earth a major would get caught with a balls up like this is simply stunning.

        Brigadier Sir, Namaste.

He did it because he is a pervert, he is disgrace to his uniform Let's also hope he has his MBE removed immediately. There is never a defence for this offence never

As a member of an Elite Corp, where everyone is like a family member, this must be devastating to the AAC. He has brought disgrace not only to himself but to his Corp.

He's a disgusting paedophile, that's why he did it. I don't see what his military service has to do with it one way or the other.

At the very least he will be drummed out - without his pension.

Sir, As a former member of the AAC you must be bitterly disappointed to say the least. There is not a lot more that one can say about the shame he has brought onto your Corp. ICARUS WILL NOT BE AMUSED

                  18 months?

He has pornographic photos of children and babies on his computer, some of those children in the act of being abused, and he gets 18 months?

                  Seriously. I'm speechless.

                    Dave,

Well, all sorts of people make up the world.

I was only saddened by this news I read in another forum.

I am glad that all of you are so horrified.

But what I liked was that instead of brushing the issue under the carpet, the Major was taken to task!

                    Good show!

                      Sir,

I am shamed. I don't know if the Indian Army shared the same promotional process as the British which is identical to the Canadians but if the Brits didn't know about the bastard, that meant that we would not have either. I am shamed that our proud heritage could not and did not detect the bastard.

As for the idiot, I like 5 minutes in the ring.

I am not defending him. But I want to point out one thing. He did not perpetuate the acts against the children. He was only convicted for viewing child porn. If he must be responsible for what happened to the children, then by the same standard, you must condemn hundreds of millions of men who view adult porn for some of those porn come at the expense of young women who are forced into those degrading situations. There must be a direct cause between the act of viewing and the suffering undertaken by those unfortunate children to justify a long term of imprisonment otherwise you start running into constitutional problems such as cruel and unusual punishment issues.

He was deliberatly viewing BABIES in compromised situations...

He should be enduring a slow painful death right about now.

Blademaster that was a dumb reply and blatent defence of a pervert short and simple and you ought to be ashamed. You took so many leaps of logic in a few sentences in a vague attempt to justify the crime and defend the accused while somehow claiming all men every-where as part of the problem simply for looking at consentual adult movies. While most would agree these adult films are rather predictable in their storyline and outcome these women are being exploited all the way to the bank and they are all 18 or over(or so they say). The perv in question had children on his screen because he liked it so off to jail he should go. No pension, nothing. The only cruel thing I can identify is the fact the parents of these poor kids won,t be able to inact there own special form of punishment against this loser and all the others like him out there. These people really piss me off and.......enough,rant over.

No I won't be ashamed for pointing out the law and the constitutionality of it whether you like it or not. He DID NOT perpetuate the act against the children so he CANNOT be lumped in with child rapists. Now if he did the act himself then he deserve to be lumped with child rapists. At worst, he is a pervert unless evidence have shown him to be something more and you DON'T have the evidence.
