  • North Korea vs South Korea

Things get worse between the two and the cease fire is ended, Japan, China and America don't fight at all, America pulls all men out and just economically supports South Korea, who wins?

No nuclear weapons allowed of course. Just 1 on 1 in a war to the end.

Sorry if this has been done recently.

It probably has, it probably hasn't.

Either way, we're trying to eliminate these "vs." threads.

Thanks. It's not bad scenario really, it's just that we've got a ton of them already and they tend to bring out the worst in people.

If people want to respond to this one, I don't have a problem with it. We're just trying to curb new ones from being made. (See the Forum Guidelines)

One has more soldiers, vastly more military spending, unrestricted access to foreign materials, and is far more advanced. Figure it out. The real question is "how much damage can the north do to the south's infrastructure" because that is what determines their negotiating power, and their loyal potential terrorists, underground tunnels, and artillery are formidable in that regard. I mean, why do you think the two countries act the way they do?

North Korea actually has more soldiers, more tanks, and more artillery pieces. On the other hand their newest tank used on a massive scale is the T-62, and the bulk of their forces are T-55/54 (or Type 59) tanks. While there were reports that the DPRK purchased one T-90S and a production license for it, I have seen no evidence that they are producing it.

Far outranged by the more technologically advanced ROK tanks.

They'll be picked off at long range like so many rabbits.

Not unlike the Iraqi army's numerically-superior T-55 and T-62's were by smaller numbers of US tanks.

The Inmin-gun does have some fearsome artillery peices, though the best they'll be able to hope for is the indescriminate slaughter of civilians in Seoul before counterbattery fire takes them out.

Probably more important would be North Korea's special operations teams.

A second (conventional) Korean war, even without the United States generally has only one conclusion.

That's kinda of why these threads are pointless.

                Actually quite a bit.

Those are not malnourished soldiers. Those are genetically bred tankers to better fit inside the low silhouette of Soviet tanks. See, more room inside a tank means higher combat efficiency.

                  Oh naturally!

But what happens when our genetically-bred loader is too weak to lift more than 2 or 3 shells before his vitamin-starved muscles scream "STOP!" ?

Seriously though, I'm thinking that the DPRK's best hope is it's arty and it's special forces.

It's armor and infantry would be like so much meat for the grinder. Gack what a needless slaughter that would be.

Short people are genetically bred tankers?Cool Although it seems my Y-WIDE genes must have mutated a little bit .Mutant? Now we're back to Bluesman intimating that he had prior knowledge of my alien heritage and consequent mutation by said aliens .

Haven't you guys already hashed this subject out on another thread somewhere?IIRC it always ends the same,North Korea gets its' butt kicked after a very short period of time;) .

Maybe because it has neither the economy nor technology to fight a modern war? Add to that that the NK airforce (globalsecurity.org) "has a marginal capability for defending North Korean airspace and a limited ability to conduct air operations against South Korea" and their SAMs are horribly outdated. They'll be torn up in days. Weeks if the SK is conservative in it's operations.

                          But that makes little difference.

Usually these vs. threads have the obvious ending of the US led technological war machine killing the Soviet industrial doctrine. The only difference is how long it would take and how much losses on the US side.

But some people still don't understand that to fight the American war machine with Soviet doctrine is pretty much an exercise in futility. The technological lead is too great to overcome. It is possible, but the numbers would have to be so huge that no one nation on this earth can afford to do so.

Not true. The Soviet Union also had what at the time was cutting edge military technology. The Active defense systems mounted on the latest Soviet tanks of the time are obvious enough evidence of this. What you seem to not understand is that many American weapons and strategies, that are all very expensive and high-tech, often have cheap and surprisingly efficient countermeasures. A perfect example of this is the Iraq war. Insurgents that hardly have the funding or the infrastructure of the U.S. military are successfully carrying out damaging attacks against the U.S. military.
