There was an interesting book written about the troops that didn't get trapped at Dunkirk and their story as they fought on unsuccessfully in Europe, but I can't remember what it's called or who wrote it.

Try this link on the Battle of Kursk by an amateur historian, Alan Wilson-Battle of Kursk
If interested in data, this gent's made available the KOSAVE II database from the U.S. Army that covers the southern front for both sides. A really, really good site."This aggression will not stand, man!" Jeff Lebowski

Though not exclusively on WWII, I'm surprised that E.H. Carr hasn't made the list yet, as 20yrs Crisis is a classic.
Amazon.com: The Twenty Years' Crisis 1919-1939: An Introduction to the Study of International Relations: Books: E. H. Carr,Mike Cox
I'd also recommend Michael Doubler's "Closing w/the Enemy," which focuses on tactics and learning in war.
Amazon.com: Closing With the Enemy: How Gis Fought the War in Europe, 1944-1945 (Modern War Studies): Books: Michael D. Doubler
...and the Pacific is badly in need of a bump...
