  • It heating up on mars but it's not the sun....

Mars is in fact heating up just like the Earth but it's not Mr. Sun's Fault...

    The Sunday TimesApril 29, 2007

    Climate change hits Mars
Mars is being hit by rapid climate change and it is happening so fast that the red planet could lose its southern ice cap, writes Jonathan Leake.

Scientists from Nasa say that Mars has warmed by about 0.5C since the 1970s. This is similar to the warming experienced on Earth over approximately the same period.

Since there is no known life on Mars it suggests rapid changes in planetary climates could be natural phenomena.

The mechanism at work on Mars appears, however, to be different from that on Earth. One of the researchers, Lori Fenton, believes variations in radiation and temperature across the surface of the Red Planet are generating strong winds.

In a paper published in the journal Nature, she suggests that such winds can stir up giant dust storms, trapping heat and raising the planet’s temperature.

Fenton’s team unearthed heat maps of the Martian surface from Nasa’s Viking mission in the 1970s and compared them with maps gathered more than two decades later by Mars Global Surveyor. They found there had been widespread changes, with some areas becoming darker.

When a surface darkens it absorbs more heat, eventually radiating that heat back to warm the thin Martian atmosphere: lighter surfaces have the opposite effect. The temperature differences between the two are thought to be stirring up more winds, and dust, creating a cycle that is warming the planet.

Someone is going to actually try to convince us that what is really and obviously happening is not happening. Give me a break. The poles on Mars are melting and they try to tell us its dust storms causing it and not the sun. Every year here where I live when the spring starts transitioning to summer the winds start to blow. Can't these Goreblist see the once cooler Mars is heating up from the sun and the winds are kicking up from the new temperature differential spurred on by increased solar radiation.

The truth is it is blowing their C02 theory all to Hell and they know it. Then they think we will just believe any Juvenile excuse they make up out of whole-cloth. Believing Al Gore-ism's is a precursor to total insanity IMHO.

    Sun activity is a fact.

But so is mercury in your fish.

It's so difficult to tell, tbh.

As I understand it, skeptics will be thrilled with this "evidence" that they have been presented with.

For me however, I think we should all live up to the reasoning that the Planet IS heating up, that's an indisputable fact.
Last December, we had a 20 degree day......that's right, DECEMBER, in a country with very few extremes.

      Who is reponsible?

Could be the Sun, Could equally be us, but let's stop yammering about it and actually do something, it's fairly clear the planet will thank us later .

How can it "equally be us"?

It could be us, the sun or a mix of both.

We don't have enough info to be sure.

It is Mars that's being discussed isn't it?

Actually we do, if you understand the scientific method.

If Mars, and probably most of the other Planets, who is closer to the Sun, is warming up then it does'nt take the brains of Steven Hawking to work out that this Planet of ours will also warm up in spite of our "protective layers"

Actually we don't, if you understand nonlinear systems.

And if you think about every time they promised you good weather and you ended up without an umbrella in the rain.
I've said it before - the climate is not a linear system. We can-not- take a look at the blueprints and say that someone is right or wrong.

^^ Not to forget the ever changing magnetic field, will someday irrespective of anything force us to find alternative solution!

So we don't know what's causing what, but we should do something about it? How do you know what we do will work if we don't even know what's causing it?

The planet will thank us? The planet doesn't give a flying rat's ass what the hell we do to it. It was here long before us and it will be here long after we're gone. The planet is not at our mercy. Just the opposite, we are at the planet's mercy. A small shiver killed 200,000 people in a tsunami. A slight sneeze called Krakatoa destroyed an island and lowered the global temperature for the next year.

I don't understand these naturalists who keep telling us how powerful the planet is and then turn around saying we can damage it. We can try our best to destroy the planet. We can try for generations to destroy the planet. The planet wouldn't even notice because the next little sneeze or hiccup can undo everything that we have ever achieved in our puny existance.

I know what to do, buy land on long large skinny islands surrounded by ocean in a temperate zone, but not on the coastal plains.

Orbital mechanics, axis progression, continental drift, solar irradiation, and all the rest of the little things that have gone into climactic cycles for the last gajillion years. We know the broad patterns. And until someone comes up with a mechanism that survives a real test, we don't know anything about anything else.

Climate changes. That's what we know.
