  • Do we control the media or does it control us?

by 'we' i mean the general public
    what do you think?
or is it a balance of control?
are we the media?is the notion of the media cotained within us? or are we contained within it?
are there types of media that are more controling than others?
what do you think of propaganda?
does the media speak the truth?
if we dont control it what does ? and where could this lead? what are the possible consquences?

My opinion is that people in general especially the youth are very easily brainwashed by the media. The media doesnt care about the results of its actions, the media cares about money. Thus it is necessary to impose strict control on the media to make sure that the media does not publish thhings that will affect people negatively.

Neither, the media is companies trying to make a dollar, by providing programing specific to their audience. (i.e. liberal news for liberal viewers, and the reverse) BTW, everything, good or bad, except math, is likely propaganda of some sort. ;)

even if that enforcement is mostly at the hands of the United States, a right we retain even if the Security Council fails to act-John Kerry
He may even miscalculate and slide these weapons off to terrorist groups to invite them to be a surrogate to use them against the United States. It’s the miscalculation that poses the greatest threat-John Kerry

Each individual country should decide what is and isnt ok for the media to say/show/print etc, or if they want to et the media run wild then they can do that too, but they should realize that they are basically sacrificing their people to the vultures.

I have no problem with allowing the media to report on governments, corporations etc.

What would you stop them from showing? What news isn't acceptable? I guess I don't understand what you're saying. :(

There are cultural taboos on all that stuff, but I don't think its illegal (unless of course the broadcasters are commiting rape and the pornography involves children or un-consenting adults) in the US. It is here in Canada though.

Im of the opinion that if it isnt illegal then it should be. In fact, if it was up to me, Id censor anything that is anti family values.

what about mass media sources other than that of the news ie film and entertainment? advertisments are definitly an atempt to control what we buy and what our ideaologies should be what we should shrive to be, in order to be the 'best' or even the 'norm'
