Hey, joey, I'm not related to defense and I'm not from IIT. Did you mean that for rayrubik? and second, I don't remember seeing this before, but yea, well I'm still in. But how the heck do you plan to get the letter to the President? and by the way, Orkut really sucks when it comes to community sections. For me, the community thing never opens, Its always the message :
Bad, bad server. No donut for you.

Unfortunately, the orkut.com server has acted out in an unexpected way. Hopefully, it will return to its helpful self if you try again in a few minutes.

It's likely that the server will behave this way on occasion during the coming months. We apologize for the inconvenience and for our server's lack of consideration for others.

          Hi Joey,

          Sorry to butt in.

The write to the president box does not give you enough words to be able to put your points across comprehensively.

The thing I find strange about Indian Office Holders is that they rarely acknowledge or respond to your messages. The same does not hold true with office holders in other countries. I find this Indian attitude disappointing. Just getting a response from the department lets you know that there is a record and someone, somewhere read your mail.

If you are indeed writing to him, you could bring up the following:

          a) A project close to my heart is Captain Kalia. He was brutally totured and killed during the Kargil Conflict. The government has not acknowledged his great sacrifice. To date his parents wait in vain. (I have written to him on this previously) If the government does not acknowledge the sacrifice, what will encourage the future generation to serve the nation? Serving your country, while being a honour, is nevertheless a hard task, especially in a country like India. The least we owe is our gratitude and recognition of the extreme sacrifice this young gentleman made so that we could enjoy our freedoms.

          b) Reservations and their effect on the middle class who are neither rich nor poor who suffer as they cannot pay huge donations nor can they send their children abroad. The need of the hour in India is more educational institutions to cater to the huge population. The demand exceeds supply to an extent where it is not competetive but harmful to the nation. Education for all will not only increase productivity but create a more competetive economy.

          c) Infrastructure: Next year will be the 60th anniversary of India's independence. What has the country achieved in terms of giving their citizens the basic necessities like Water, Power, good Roads and and well regulated Health industry that can take care of all citizens, not just the rich. India needs to act and act fast or it will lose its competetive edge. Many organizations are sick of infrastructure problems in India and are moving operations and offices to other countries. Dubai is one place that offers a very good infrastructure without any bureaucracy that bogs down India.

          d) Eliminate child labour completely not just by passing laws but acting on them. Children have a basic right to education. It is the government's duty to ensure that these children receive their due. To this effect India needs to bridge the gap between the rich and poor. There needs to be a balance. In my opinion a country that cannot create balance has failed.

          e) Kick out bureaucracy. This is like the pest that sucks the life out of the host. India is losing out: Foreign Institutions complain it takes too long and is a very arduous process to register to start operations within India. This hurts our economy.

          f) Deregulation: Forget socialism, capitalism is the way to go. Protectionist policies rarely work.

I apologise for hijacking your topice here. There are just some of the points that the Indian Government needs to address.
