  • Question About The Nature of The War We Are In...

    Hi Guys,

Many people view the current security climate through the lens of a "Clash of Civilizations", "West vs. Islam", "Christendom vs. Islam" argument.

Frankly, I personally do not see it that way but for purposes of discussion will momentarily suspend my disbelief to consider the following question.

We are in a war with Islam. This arguably, and many of you have taken this position, will be a very long or possibly permanent state of affairs.

Bearing this in mind, the question I pose to you is:

In our very long or permanent war, what do we do with large numbers of prisoners?

    Look forward to your input,

    William

      M21,

Fine, lets take that at face value for it is a sound assertion.

Real boats rock so we must rock with them, as it were.

How about historical case studies? This has been an issue at other times and places.

Of what has been tried in the past, how do they brake down in broad terms?

      Regards,

      William

        Hi Guys,

Historically, AFAIK, the traditional remedies for dealing with large numbers of prisoners under such circumstances as permanent war or very long ones appear to be limited to slavery and mass execution.

One might make a case for a certain amount of repatriation but still there are those who you cannot repatriate and they will start to build up over time like we are already starting to see in our facilities. This means permanent warehousing of growing numbers of people over time unless disposal by other means is considered or otherwise devised.

Slavery, mass execution or permanent warehousing; not exactly palatable courses of action but those seem to be the options. Anybody got any other ideas?

        Regards,

        William
