In a hover, inside 500 meters, you'd just shoot the pilot.

In a hover, you could score a hit on the general vicinity of the engine compartment from probably 1000 meters.

If it's moving, you're better off hiding...

The real problem with the Kiowa's was that they could see you a lot farther than you could see them.

That would suck. If a Kiowa spotted you, did they usually use the .50, the Hellfire, the FFAR, or call arty?

Is there any way to avoid a Kiowa strafing you?

Have you ever tried taking a potshot at the Kiowa's dome? That would render it fairly useless, no?

NO, cause again, you can't see it from 3kilometers out...and they can see you unless you're hunkered down.

The best way to deal with a prowling 58 Delta was to lay low until it left.

The best way to hit helos is on the ground in the FARP.

Get a team in a firing position with LOS to a FARP, and you could wipe out(more correctly tie down) a whole squadron of helos on the ground.

So instead of a sniper team send in a squad or platoon of infantry with M-203's and M-60's. They could shut it down much more effectively.

No, cause a FARP has an armed security element.

Standard infantry would face a pitched battle to take a FARP, whereas a sniper team can sit safely out of range of the security detail's weapons and pin down the whole site for hours.

Yeah, but security can sweep out from all sides and eventually close range to the sniper who is uncapable of defending such an attack, whereas infantry with M-203's and M-60's can destroy choppers in the FARP, And defend easily against the FARP security force using M-60, M-16 and M-203.

Hmmm, we seemed to do quite well at stopping such counter attacks. Perhaps you might defer to me on what types of counterattacks a sniper team 'is capable' of executing.

Suffice it to say that very, very few soldiers are of the mindset to attempt to cross many hundreds of meters of open terrain in pursuit of a target they have not localized, and who is actively killing' one of them every few seconds.

I know I wouldn't cross a few hundred meters to attack a target I had no idea where it was at.

A single sniper team at 1000 yards could easily halt a platoon if not more.

That is why recee by fire is so effective.
