Anyone have specs on the radars used by the two aircraft?

Btw, wasn't the E-3 crash caused by a bird ingestion...in 3 of the engines if IIRC...I think they ran into a flock of snow geese.

Thats what I am looking at. because I dont think it really matters on what aircraft it is kept on. Boeing or IL76, they are both reliable.

I think Phalcon is a little advanced as it used Phased array radsrs compared the E3-Sentry. The problem with sentry is its like a radar that scans the orbit in a circular fashion. Where as phased array scans the whole surface simultaneously. Its more like a digital and analog signal comparison thing.

This is to the best of my knowledge. Any inputs????

We'd have to compare the radars, and all the important things we'd have to compare are all classified.

So it's pretty hard to say.

The E-3 does have a much larger crew, so it probably does hold some advantadge in managing a large air battle, but even that's just a guess.

Thats true. Most of it is classified. I think the concepts are not classified. Like type of radars etc.

I found lot of pics of E3 here.

Depending upon flight altitude hundreds of air can - with the rotary Westinghouse radar An/apy-1 in the Rotodom over the trunk, See-und ground targets to approximately 400 km distance to be supervised and pursued. Will conveyed the data at command centers at the soil, but can interceptors also from board be led.

Yeah, but what's in the bulge in the massive nose cone?

                  Thats the phased array radar.

Here is how phalcon is superior to E3.

The AWE&C phased array radar replaces the conventional rotodome radar. It is mounted either on the aircraft fuselage or on top of the aircraft inside a stationary dome, providing full 360° coverage. This electronically steered beam radar delivers a tremendous advantage over mechanical rotating antenna, as it supports the tracking a high maneuvering targets. The radar can detect even low flying objects from distances of hundreds of kilometers, day and night, under all weather conditions. Verification beams sent at specific, individual, newly detected targets eliminate false alarms. Moreover, track initiation is achieved in 2 to 4 seconds as compared to 20 to 40 seconds with a rotodome radar
