Elderly German men escape nursing home to attend heavy metal concert

Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Two elderly men escaped from a nursing home in Germany to attend a heavy metal festival on Friday, police said.

Nursing home officials discovered that the men were missing and alerted police, who eventually found the men at Wacken Open Air, the world's largest heavy metal festival, held every year since 1990 in Wacken, Schleswig Holstein.

Although police found the men "disoriented and dazed," they didn't want to leave the concert.

"They obviously liked the metal festival," police spokeswoman Merle Neufeld told German broadcaster Norddeutscher Rundfunk. "The care home quickly organized return transport after police picked them up."

The men reportedly took a taxi back to the nursing home, along with a police escort.

And the events of the last 24 hours bring back memories of 1974 when this song was in heavy rotation.

Thanks, I had almost forgotten about that song until you put it up and then bam the memories came flooding back. I started high school in Los Angeles in 1967 and one of the first things to greet me as a freshman was Vietnam for my entire time in high school. As you know 1968 was a very tumultuous year especially for my last days in high school as RFK had been shot. Moving to San Diego later that summer got Los Angeles off my mind at that time.

However, the link made me think of 1967, think of high school, and think of this song which is one of my all time favorites. In fact the first album I bought is this one from them, when it came out, and I still have it. They were playing gigs around the Los Angeles area in 1967 and early 68 before they even cut the record. Saw them at my high school, a dance, and this song has been imprinted into my mind ever since. When a little older the long version, the only version, is great in a darkened room, some lava lamps, a couple of beers and...

50th anniversary this year of In A Gadda Da Vida. In honor I will play the album now... full blast!

Second album bought was Led Zeppelin II so you can see where I was going initially...
