Its being reported that David Bowie has died. One of the most influential & talented performers of the 70s. Pretty much everything he did that decade was important and/or good. Not only did he influence music, he influenced how it looked with some truly stunning looks. His preparedness to constantly change styles showed a courage few artists possess. Not all of those changes worked, especially after the early 80s, but kudos for not just playing it safe.
His first hit:
An early classic:
Awesome Ziggy footage in this one:
A radical change of direction courtesy of a collaboration with Brian Eno:
The last gasp of his most productive phase. A cool film clip, another departed great on guitar:

Just checked and saw nothing. Man, sure hope you're wrong Pete.
Huge, huge loss otherwise. Saw him in November 1974 during the Young Americans tour. Sucked. Talk about your change in direction. DIAMOND DOGS had only been out less than a year it seems and suddenly he'd gone all disco on a whole bunch of kids who'd become space cadets only to see their captain bail on that whole glitter scene."This aggression will not stand, man!" I'm afraid the family has confirmed mate. Who would have thought Lemmy would live longer?
His changes in direction certainly made life difficult for some of his fans, but others revelled in it. His 1969-1984 output is up there with any of the modern greats, not least because he refused to be pinned down. He did everything & did it well (or pretty well, at least). Other than the Beatles I struggle to think of a successful artist or group who covered so much musical territory.sigpic

Damned shame. Heroes L.P. (w/ Eno's help) along with Roxy Music might have been responsible for the whole Euro scene which subsequently emerged in the 80s. A real innovator in fashion and sound."This aggression will not stand, man!" Jeff Lebowski

The previous few posts have tried to celebrate some of the immense legacy left by an English musician with a clear eye to the future.
A couple with firm connections to the past and probably only a brief time still remaining with us, Richard Thompson performing Sloth from FULL HOUSE w/ Dave Swarbrick. Both have seen better days though Swarbrick is decidedly the worse for wear. Still, the special "it" remains for these two stellar icons of the English folk scene.
This had to have been a moment when time stood still for just a bit-

Bad month for famous entertainers. Dale Griffin, original drummer for Mott the Hoople is dead from Alzheimers.
The irony in this is that the band was saed by fan David Bowie, who heard they were on the verge of a breakup in 1972 & offered them 'Suffragette City' to record. They knocked him back, but took 'All the Young Dudes' instead, one of Bowie's gay anthems (though no one knew tha tat the time). Bowie produced the album & MTH became a glam rock sensation. After numerous personnel changes the band broke up in 1980. Griffin went on to be a successful producer, with Hanoi Rocks & the Cult among his credits. As a producer on the BBC's 'Peel Sessions' he also produced early recordings by Pulp and Nirvana.
