Malaysia Replaces Steyr Assault Rifle With Colt M4 Carbine
The Colt M4 Carbine is the standard infantry assault rifle used by the United States military

I see more M4s in the hands of our GIs than M-16s now. At least from news clips and photos. Most of them have attachments also, from a simple front grip to optics and lights.

That's true. From photographic evidence there seem to be a lot more M4's issued than full-length M16's.
However, it can be misleading. For instance, German war correspondants photographed as many MP40's as possible, giving the impression that there were more in service than there actually were.

Well, to pick bones, the M-4 can't possibly be the standard infantry weapon of the US military because the Marine Corps is still sticking to their M-16s =P

It's likely that what you are seeing is troops that are assigned patrol in Iraq are issued M-4's. Which would lead to the media photographing them most of all, not unlike:

Not that the media gives a rip about making it look like one rifle is more common than another, but probably more because the M-4 is more photogenic, especially with all the oddments and chochkies attached to it. Sooooo....the M-4 is seen more simply due to media exposure....
Which leads us to point #3:

Hey this is great, everybody responded for me
“He was the most prodigious personification of all human inferiorities. He was an utterly incapable, unadapted, irresponsible, psychopathic personality, full of empty, infantile fantasies, but cursed with the keen intuition of a rat or a guttersnipe. He represented the shadow, the inferior part of everybody’s personality, in an overwhelming degree, and this was another reason why they fell for him.”
The AR-15 family has evolved into a modular weapon system. Replace the standard foregrip with rail system and you can put a bunch of different stuff on it to suit the mission needs, from grenade launcher to a front grip to tactical lights to laser to all sorts of optics.
Erganomics is a plus in the favor of the M-4A1. Cost as well as it is cheaper then the AUG-A3 which it was widley reported Malaysia would be building. Pretty much everyone who is anyone issues the M-4 . Malaysia has issued M-16s for decades and M-16s with UBGLs are still in use alongside AUGs among Malaysian peacekeepers. Malay SOF have made use of the CAR-15 for a few decades.
So one starts to look for a new rifle which can make use of all the sexy rails and additions and have a choice between two of them and pick the M-4A1. The sexy additions and rails were built for the M-4A1 which is always a plus as well. So this is not totally out of left field.
And palm greasing goes with any defense deal... whether cash, jobs for family or votes from providing jobs for ones district... and politics is another word for palm greasing... ;)

A trick of the light? Bad camera setting? Lousy transfer? Prices were quite reasonable for pink berets?
Besides, it looks like only the middle ranks are wearing...umm...pink.

There are only so many colors that one can use for a beret... Indonesian Marines also use a pink beret... the lesson is pick early...

Or perhaps they bought their AUGs from Austrailia. They have many problems with the rifles they made. But palm greasing gets my final vote too. The arms imdustry is brutally effective at bribing. Not that there is anything wrong with that ;)
