  • ARV(Armed Robotic Vehicle)

United Defense was selected by the U.S. Army’s Future Combat System (FCS) Lead System Integrator team of Boeing and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) to fill an additional role on the FCS team in maturing design concepts for two ARV variants on August 28, 2003.

The Armed Robotic Vehicle (ARV) is an unmanned, 5-ton vehicle controlled remotely by a dismounted operator or by one located in a Manned Ground Vehicle. The ARV-RSTA variant will provide Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition for the FCS Units of Action, while the ARV-Assault variant will provide direct and indirect fires under remote control in support of mounted and dismounted operations.

In the initial phase, United Defense will mature the ARV system concept, conduct performance modeling and configuration trade studies, and conduct cost as an independent variable (CAIV) analysis.

In January 2003, the U.S. Army and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) selected United Defense to team with General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) and the Lead Systems Integrator (Boeing/SAIC) in the design of the ground vehicles portion of FCS, a critical component of the Army's planned force transformation. FCS will use significantly enhanced battlefield knowledge to improve the combat power of a network of vehicles, sensors and weapons.
