I'd like to share this essay and ask the question, is porn political?

    PORN
    by Max Gordon

    April 2006

Porn is in my life again.

Sometimes when I look at porn, I can’t stop. I walk away eventually – but usually hours, or most of an entire day, have gone by. On occasion, I’ve forgotten what time or what day of the week it was, missed appointments or gone to bed at dawn because of porn. I always tell myself that I’m only going to watch it for a few minutes - as I’m leaving for work, after I finish dinner, right before bed. Three hours later, four or five or six hours later, I’m still sitting there, staring at the screen, wondering where the time went. I’ve lost years like that.

I’d had several months away from porn this last time. Then I just got up one morning last week, walked over to the computer and went to a porn site. I was disappointed in myself for failing yet again, but I felt excited too. I’d missed my porn. When I downloaded the first image and felt the familiar rush, the release of tension. It’s like I hadn’t been away at all.

    Hardly a Current Event.

Should be moved to the Pub.

In UAE the bulk of the internet's porn sites are blocked. They have a separate department dedicated to this.

Of course its still not blocked porn for people still looking for it real hard especially kids, since p2p program do still exist. And plus since they're out banning sites they've now crossed over and started banning matriamonial sites, some critical blogs, anti-Islamic sites, etc.

I can understand banning porn just look at how its destroyed this dude's life.

Blocked for everybody? Like, in general?

Perhaps I am too used to our freedoms here, but I think that is absurd. Adults should be able to turn on their computers or DVD players and look at other adults doing whatever they want to see them doing.

These ones that people have to look for "real hard" are probably the ones that should be banned. These are most likely the ones with illegal (child) content.

Far more peoples lives are destroyed by alcoholism -shall we ban beer? How about all the people getting lung cancer - banning smoking could be next if we look at it that way. With a lack of porn, smoking or alcohol, people WILL find other ways to "destroy" their lives. Laws cannot prevent people from being stupid. This guy let it get out of control and that is his own fault - not the fault of the internet or the pornography industry. We cannot ban everything simply because some people cannot be responsible.

The day you let government become your mommy and daddy, and refuse to accept responsibility for your own actions, is the day government has become your oppressor.

NEVER allow your government to grant you your rights. YOU grant the government ITS rights.

Watching porn for hours - this is kinda sick. I can understand that someone has few porns in his background pages (like me now) but I usually dial some phone number and do something productive for that matter, not starring at a$$es and d!cks as an idiot.

Banning porns – what’s this “1984”? I agree with THL, this guy screwed his life but that’s his and only his fault. I would install fiberoptic cameras, claymores and remote controlled heavy machine guns in my apartment if some fcuk would have try to prevent me doing anything but illegal in my bedroom.

                  Top Hatter,

In continuation to what you wrote, someone may Ban the Banns.
