No nukes were available to the US until mid 1946. After that, it would be about 1 nuke available every 4-6 weeks(according to SEER Stuart over at David Newtons board. SEER was a nuclear weapons designer for the USN).
The Russians lost 300,000 men in the battle for Berlin alone.
They still had the prototype at Los Alamos. It would have taken alot of tweaking to make it work since this was the device that they've made their mistakes on.
SEER Stuart has described the Mk1 device as 'inherently unsafe', apparently it was potentially possible for non fuzed fission to occur.
That's bad.
We could however have shipped it over via sea, stuck it in the middile of a planned(by us) battlefield, fiegn a general retreat after a soviet probe or attack....and sucker a whole field army into vaporization.
That's good.
Either way, by mid 46 the Soviets would have one nuclear device raining down every six weeks until they surrendered.
Seriously? I thought one of the main reasons the US didnt go into the USSR was cuz they were scared of nukes. Seems like one hell of an oppurtunity that we lost...

You mean to continue to lose millions of lives, burn cities to the ground, lose another generation of young people, orphans without homes living like dogs, while wives, mothers, sisters work 24/7 with below proverty pay churning out things that may get their husbands/sons/brothers killed while trying not to think about the letters from the War Dept that come almost everyday to someone you know and you hope it wouldn't be you?
Yeah, but think of all the 40+ years of the Cold War where nuclear war was a push of a button away. Plus all the spies killed, and Korea and Vietnam probably wouldn't have happened, and if they did, the outcome would be much different. Take all the lives lost in Korea and Vietnam and compare it to a war in 1945.

Like you said, the Russians just lost a good couple million in WWII. Their situation would have been much worse off, plus we had the nuclear advantage. Plus, American training was superior, weaopns and systems were rolling out at thousands per week and there were many who would have supported the fall of Communism inside the USSR itself.

You better do alot more research before spouting that bullshit.
American training was not superior. Both armies were conscripts given minimal training before shipping off. Both technologies were equivelent. T-34 and Sherman were on par. The Russians burn bodies to get what they want. So did Patton and MacArthur.
And you know what they call those who supported the fall of communism inside the USSR? Nazi sympathizers. You, of all people, should realize the enormity of that shit.
True, but the Soviets had no nukes in 1945. Using that nuke could ensure victory quickly. And the US would have a nuke every six weeks in 1946 when the Soviets still had no nukes.

Colonel, are you sure about that? Every thing I've read or heard about the Sherman was that the only thing it really had going for it was numbers and reliability. It's armor and gun were woefully inadequate compared to, say, the Panther, which is a good comparison to the T-34.
“He was the most prodigious personification of all human inferiorities. He was an utterly incapable, unadapted, irresponsible, psychopathic personality, full of empty, infantile fantasies, but cursed with the keen intuition of a rat or a guttersnipe. He represented the shadow, the inferior part of everybody’s personality, in an overwhelming degree, and this was another reason why they fell for him.”
