Witnesses told local and national news media that the gunman asked Muslims to leave before opening fire. Kenya is 83% Christian with a sizable Muslim community — about 11% of its 44 million people.

Isn't that thoughtful. Muslims... please leave the mall. Christians, say your prayers.

The TTP/LeJ/Jundullah have done the same in their sectarian terrorist attacks (against Shia) in Pakistan - separating passengers on buses and cars based on whether they believe them to be Shia or not and massacring those who are perceived to be Shia.

The paternal side of my family is Shia, and the maternal side Sunni - there is no difference from a physical appearance or linguistic point of view. Typically the means used to differentiate Shia from Sunni in these kinds of terrorist attacks is the name - many Shia will have the names Hussain, Hassan, Ali etc. that can be used as a highly flawed way of determining who is Shia or not.

A more accurate way of using names to determine sect, especially in rural/tribal areas, is when the terrorists are local to the area (or have local demographic information) and can identify Shia's by the tribe/sub-tribe name - that is more effective because often an entire tribe/sub-tribe can be Shia/Sunni.

From what I understand, Israeli 'advisers' and the FBI are assisting Kenyan forces in efforts to secure all hostages and retake the mall. No doubt these advisers are elite Sayeret (Israeli Special Forces) commandos. It seems that Israel and Kenya have a security pact (didn't know that).

The chinese strategy against islamist terrorists is the best. Much of this terrorist BS is propaganda. They WANT the media to cover and amplify their rambo martyr shit around the world. The world could learn from the chinese and stop broadcasting these idiots on live tv. The kenyan siege should not have been covered in real-time. Instead it should have appeared as a one liner headline on 17th page after two weeks - "13 stray pigs were found and exterminated by local authorities in westgate mall". The end.

A Turkish couple who survived the Mumbai raid had recounted a similar tale. They had been spared because they were Muslims while others were shot. The guy tried to tell the terrorists to spare the others as well, but they of course didn't listen.

My condolences to the aggrieved families and may their lost loved ones rest in peace. Hope the Kenyans capture one or two of the attackers alive so they can make them sing later.

According to sources in Kenya, some of the Somali terrorists were dressed as women.

They use the crude way of checking the back of a person for scars, as Shias are known to lash themselves during Moharram. See the video below of how a Pakistani man's back was checked by insurgents in an attack on shias in Baltistan (at 0.42 seconds), then released when there were no scars seen.

                        Cheers!...on the rocks!!

Not every Shia male 'lashes himself' during Moharram - the majority of males on my fathers side certainly did not, though they would 'beat their chests to varying degrees', but nothing that ever broke the skin or left any permanent marks.

I didn't make either of those claims - however, I do believe Al Shabab's religious ideology is a perverted form of Sunni Islam.

In Pakistan at least the Shia militant groups have not engaged in the kind of mass massacres of non-combatants from the opposing sect that the Sunni extremists/militants have, at least not for a few decades now.

Which would not be the first time they have used this tactic and more then likely wont be the last. Cowards.

It was in the news this morning that 2 or perhaps more of the militants were Americans.

I say FUCK EM and shoot them do not capture them. We dont want them back or any of their kind.

Its bad enough we have never fully retrieved our honored dead soldiers from foreign shores from past conflicts.

But these militants should be shot and hung for all to see, who give a rats ass what happens to the bodies. Let the crows have them.
