The most significant aspects of this work is that some day you may have an entire separate pathway of synthetic biomolecular circuits and structures running inside your cells, keeping you healthy and free of disease. We can make lots of nanoscale structures and devices today using DNA and RNA, but those molecules have very messy interactions with natural biological machinery. With completely synthetic and programmable versions of nucleic acids, you can have things that interact in very limited and specific ways with natural biology, while spending most of the time interacting amongst themselves to execute control circuits, build structural platforms, act as machinery. Pretty amazing. I'm going to contact these guys and try to acquire some of this stuff.
