Gee, another shot to the kidneys for Reverend Al's religious crusade. Warms my heart.

"Even some in the establishment media now appear to be taking notice of the growing number of skeptical scientists. In October, the Washington Post Staff Writer Juliet Eilperin conceded the obvious, writing that climate skeptics "appear to be expanding rather than shrinking." Many scientists from around the world have dubbed 2007 as the year man-made global warming fears “bite the dust.” (LINK) In addition, many scientists who are also progressive environmentalists believe climate fear promotion has "co-opted" the green movement. The situation here is very cuious. It's colder this winter than last.

I was hoping for a little dose of global warming so I could run the Bobcat some more before the icy days of January. I am very disappointed in Al's predictions. Cost me half a week lost time on the rental.

Oh that's very easy. Obviously global warming caused the weather to be more eratic with greater temperature ranges. That's why the correct name is "global climate change" rather than "global warming." If we don't stop our civilization now, the earth will get even warming in the summer and colder in the winter, with overall average temperature much higher than before.

That was almost exactly the answer I got from global warming cultists when I asked about the cold winters.

Obviously that's a Bush report. The entire panel was compromised by the Bush administration to come up with this bogus report so the oil companies can continue to make billions. The scientists were wearing rosy colored glasses and couldn't see the imminent danger to the entire planet.

So how is the winter going up north then? I'm off to the beach for a week after xmas, pitch the tent and spend a week reading, interrupted by throwing the kids back in the sea

We've averaged around 50F for overnight lows in the past 2 weeks. It's not even winter yet. Daytime high doesn't even hit 70F. Damn global warming.

It was above 30F here today for the first time in a month I think. I felt like I needed to put on shorts. The coldest night so far this season was only around -7F. So not so bad so far.

People who still do not believe that human caused climate change is occurring remind me of when people still said the world was flat, when early scientist were claiming it was round.

Regardless, all anyone is really saying in regards to climate change is globally we need to stop being reckless polluters. From my viewpoint those that disregard the idea of human-caused climate change seem to be indirectly promoting the idea we need to do nothing about the current levels of pollution.

They also seem to forget human-caused climate change is found throughout history; at least in regional or continental areas.

For instance, the over farming of the land in the mid-west resulted in the dust bowl. Is this not an example of human-caused regional climate change?

Or when in Northern China the army corp. of engineers went over and planted a forest of trees to help protect China's cities bordering the Gobi desert from being overrun by desert driven winds. This resulted in the Yellow Sea to lose much of the nutrients which those Gobi driven winds supplied to the plankton, which in turn resulted in the extreme decrease of the fish population. Is this not an example of human-caused regional climate change?

Or when the North American rainforest was destroyed by settlers moving west under the belief of Manifest Destiny; Daniel Boone once said a squirrel could climb on a tree on the coast of South Carolina and would not have to touch ground till the Mississippi. Scientists are still exploring the effects of the loss of the North American rainforest. Is this not an example of human-caused regional climate change?

I could list a dozen other examples of human-caused regional climate change; why is it so hard to comprehend there might actually be global human-caused climate change? Is it really that big of a stretch?

    Amos-

Why do you believe that we are changing the global climate? What is your basis?

I really don't think the debate anymore is about if there is global climate change, obliviously there is; the debate is really if it is human caused. To be perfectly honest Dale, I am unsure. Humans are part of the environment; we have to contribute something to the environment, however large or small.

Although as noted in my previous post, regional or continental human climate change is well documented; in these scenarios many times the human caused climate change is many times more harmful to the humans causing it than to the actual environment.

To give an example, archeologists and climatologists are finding out the Mayan civilization may have disappeared because of regional human caused climate change. This happened they believe because the Mayan's over farmed their land, causing wide spread weed infestations, which eventually led to deforestation, causing the top soil to be washed away. The Mayan's simply could not feed their population, causing great famine. With the Mayan presence completely devastated the tropical rain forest eventually rebounded to its present day state.

So in this respect if regional or continental human climate change is a reality, why is it so hard to imagine the possibility of global human caused climate change?

I am not a scientist. But I do respect the opinions of those who commit their life to this study. So what happens personally with me is I will read one study, say claiming to disprove human-caused climate change, paying attention to its merits; and then I will think....hmmm... they seem to be right. Then I will read another study, say claiming to prove human-caused global climate change, paying attention to its merits; and then I will think...hmmm they seem to be right. I am no scientist, just an aspiring historian. So that’s why I am unsure, but the historian in me refuses to quickly dismiss the possibilities either way.

The historian in me also sees the common ground, which is the problem of global pollution. This is undoubtedly a problem we as a global society need to aggressively address! I would think people on both sides of this issue would agree.

The point I am trying to make: lets stop bickering about if global climate change is human caused or not. Let’s start to address the immediate problem of global pollution, because here is the irony, if we don't soon, there may need to be no more debate.

Do you see what I mean?
